Before Jaws and Star Wars, summers were considered the graveyard season for movies!

Before Jaws and Star Wars, summers were considered the graveyard season for movies!

Judging from recent summers (which have consisted of subpar sequels and more super hero movies than anyone can handle), you may find it difficult to believe that the warmer months are prime movie time.

Kids are out of school, people are more likely to take vacations. It's the perfect time for a blockbuster.

This was not always the case though. This summer-centric model came about after the release of "Jaws" and "Star Wars" two years later.

The Steven Spielberg-directed "Jaws" was released in the summer and was hugely successful. It was the most successful film up until that point. "Star Wars" came out in 1977 and was another huge success.

Both films changed Hollywood's business model that still stands today. The model revolves around adventure and action blockbusters released during the summer.

They're created to appeal to a large audience and are supported by heavy advertising. So let's get back to movies as good as "Jaws" and "Star Wars" again, shall we?
