daily brain teaser

Seven

There are seven parts to this riddle,

Each is part of a greater whole.

You see most of these,

Everyday as you please:

First is what I did to a book yesterday,

Second mixes with apples.

Third is a shout, then “ouch” you say,

Fourth shares the sound of mean.

Fifth is what the wind had done,

The sixth is often skipped.

The last and final can be called by two names,

If roses are this, then which is the blue one?

Check Braingle.com for the answer.

Vocabulary : Split Infinitives

daily brain teaser

An infinitive is an unconjugated verb preceded by the word “to”. For example:

“I decided to go to the party.”

“I was forced to eat the vegetables.”

A split infinitive occurs when “to” and the verb are separated. For example:

“I decided to not go to the party.”

“I was forced to unfortunately eat the vegetables.”

These sentences can easily be “fixed” by rearranging the words (eg. “not to go”, “unfortunately to eat”). It is somewhat controversial whether or not split infinitives are considered to be proper grammar. They are fairly common in speech and can sometimes help to reduce ambiguity in a sentence, but some strict grammarians still consider them to be grammatically incorrect.

Stress : Worry

daily brain teaser

It’s tough to be creative when you are filled with worry. If you are worrying about your grade on a project or how your boss is going to react to your ideas, you are going to have a difficult time getting into a creative mindset. You need to be able to completely free your mind in order to have the flexibility to go into unfamiliar territory and find innovative ideas. Here is one technique to reduce your worry about the outcome of a project.

Gather all the Facts

Without all the facts, there is no way to know how to move forward. Most worry occurs because you are uncertain about what direction to take on a particular task. The more facts you have, the more certain you will be. If you need to make a decision at the end of the week, don’t even think about the decision until Friday. Spend the whole week objectively gathering all the information that you can about the decision. When Friday comes along, you will probably find that the facts have already made the decision for you.

Memory : The Link Method

daily brain teaser

The link method is a simple way to remember a list of items in order.

Suppose you have to do a few chores such as drop off the kids at school, go to the bank, and then do some grocery shopping. Try linking these items together in a little story: “I’m going to drop the kids off at the bank because they can crawl through the slot in the teller window and pick out the groceries from inside the vault.”

The more unusual the story, the more likely you are to remember it!

With practice, it’s possible to quickly remember at least a dozen items using this method, and it also gives you a chance to stretch your creativity by thinking up crazy stories.

Two Faced Illusion With Makeup

doubleface2

Everybody has met someone in their life that as two faced. You know the type! Someone who tells one person one thing, then turns around and tells someone else something completely different. Ugh! I hate that sort of attitude!

But, I do love me a great two faced illusion! I generally don’t like two faced people, but I think I could make an exception for this lady…

doubleface2

This two faced illusion was created through the clever use of makeup. The woman’s real nose is covered up with hair. Two noses were drawn onto the face, most likely with eyeliner, and two extra eyes are also drawn on the face. The eyes are made up with makeup, just like real eyes. The finishing touch on this two faced illusion was the addition of lips.

When you look at this two faced illusion from straight on, it really does look like she has two faces! At least for a few seconds, anyway…

Did you love this two faced illusion with makeup? Check out this giant mouth illusion, which was also created with makeup!
