Juries can acquit people they think are guilty—learn this and change the world!

Juries can acquit people they think are guilty—learn this and change the world!

Jury nullification occurs in a trial when a jury acquits a defendant they believe to be guilty of the charges against them.

This may occur when members of the jury disagree with the law the defendant has been charged with breaking, or believe that the law should not be applied in that particular case. A jury can similarly convict a defendant on the ground of disagreement with an existing law, even if no law is broken.

A jury verdict contrary to the letter of the law pertains only to the particular case before it. If a pattern of acquittals develops, however, in response to repeated attempts to prosecute a statutory offence, this can have the de facto effect of invalidating the statute.

A pattern of jury nullification may indicate public opposition to an unwanted legislative enactment.

The Moon keeps the Earth spinning straight! It's astounding what would happen without it.

The Moon keeps the Earth spinning straight! It's astounding what would happen without it.

The Moon is the only natural satellite of the Earth and the fifth largest moon in the Solar System. It is the largest natural satellite of a planet in the Solar System relative to the size of it's primary.

What would happen if we didn’t have the moon?

We’d no longer watch the phases of the moon at night, but see a glittering cloud of debris which would probably be a lot brighter than the full moon. Some astronomers would really hate this new interference with their dark skies.

The greater concern would be in the long-term, regarding the Earth’s wobbling axis. Right now the spin axis of the Earth very slowly wobbles over 26,000 years, like a slowing wobbling top, because of the tug of the sun.

Without the Moon the Earth's axis would shift unpredictably and seasons would not be constant. So let’s be thankful for the moon.

A blind woman was able to see light for the first time in 1945. Can you guess why?

On 16 July 1945, in a remote section of the Alamogordo Air Base, New Mexico, the first full-scale test was made of the implosion type atomic fission bomb. For the first time in history there was a nuclear explosion. And what an explosion!

The bomb was not dropped from an airplane but was exploded on a platform on top of a 100-foot high steel tower.

The test was successful beyond the most optimistic expectations of anyone. It's estimated that the energy generated was in excess to the equivalent of 15,000 to 20,000 tons of TNT.

The explosion was so bright that Georgia Green, a blind woman almost 50 miles away, asked her brother "What's that light?".

Some bridges are made of water! Can you guess why?

Some bridges are made of water! Can you guess why?

A pontoon bridge or floating bridge is a bridge that floats on water and in which barge- or boat-like pontoons support the bridge deck and it's dynamic loads.

While pontoon bridges are usually temporary structures, some are used for long periods of time. Permanent floating bridges are useful for sheltered water-crossings where it is not considered economically feasible to suspend a bridge from anchored piers. Such bridges can require a section that is elevated, or can be raised or removed, to allow ships to pass.

Pontoon bridges are especially useful in wartime as river crossings. Such bridges are usually temporary, and are sometimes destroyed after crossing (to keep the enemy from using them), or collapsed and carried (if on a long march).

They were used to great advantage in many battles throughout time, including the Battle of Garigliano, the Battle of Oudenarde, and many others.

Pontoon bridges have been in use since ancient times.

A man once snuck into the World Trade Center at night. You won't believe what he did next!

A man once snuck into the World Trade Center at night. You won't believe what he did next!

Philippe Petit is a French high-wire artist who gained fame for his high-wire walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, New York, on 7 August 1974.

For his act, he used a 450-pound cable and a custom-made 26-foot long, 55-pound balancing pole.

He was first inspired to attempt what he called his "coup" on the Twin Towers while he sat in his dentist's office in Paris in 1968.

In a magazine, he came upon an article about the yet-to-be constructed buildings, along with an illustration of the model. At this time, Petit began collecting articles on the Towers whenever he was able to.

The extensive news coverage and public appreciation of Petit's high-wire walk resulted in all formal charges relating to his walk being dropped in exchange for what was supposed to be a free show of juggling for a few children in Central Park.

John Paul I died just one month into his papacy under mysterious circumstances—and the church refuses to investigate!

One of the many mysteries of life is death.

Pope John Paul I died in September 1978 only a month after his election to the Papacy. The suddenness of death, together with the Vatican’s difficulties with the ceremonial and legal death procedures have resulted in several conspiracy theories.

However, no one really knows what was the cause of his death, not even the Catholic Church. The Chuch has a policy against papal autopsy, and never tried to investigate.

However, the Vatican says that he most likely died of a heart attack. Several people think that the Vatican had altered some of the details of the discovery of the death to avoid possible catastrophes.
