Government #yourpoundcoin Campaign Backfires In Spectacular And Inevitable Style

George Osborne laid down a challenge to the people of Great Britain today...

And the Great people of Britain duly responded - only in exactly the opposite way to which old George had hoped.

That's right, we did what we do best and took the piss. Here's the 'Saturday night' version.

This version that demonstrates that Alex Salmond's head is actually a very good fit for this type of thing.

Jamie created this - quite frankly astounding - retro classic collection.

The Week In (Funny) Pictures

This Is Why You Should Always Proofread Wedding Invitations

Because homophones:

We do hope their guests took the invite by its spirt rather than its letter.

Of course, you know what this reminds us of, don't you? That great old 'Star Wars' joke:

Q. How did Darth Vader know what Luke Skywalker was getting for Christmas?

A. He felt his presents.

You're welcome, comedy fans.

The Final Scene In 'Star Wars' Without John Williams' Music Is Very Awkward Indeed

Typical. You wait ages for two iconic movie scenes to be reworked without their musical accompaniment, and then two come along at once.

Yes, earlier we brought you the famous final dance from 'Dirty Dancing' without Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warne's '(I've Had) The Time Of My Life'. And now Auralnauts is picking up where Mario Wienerroither left off, and giving us the throne room scene from 'Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope' (SPOILER ALERT: they get medals) without John Williams' iconic score.

The result? A slightly creepy, rather awkward collection of smiles, coughs and the tinny sound of R2D2's little legs.

Here's the original, to compare and contrast (and to remind us all how grateful we should be to those who compose wonderful film scores):
