Today's Daily Brain Teaser (Jun 07, 2013)

The Last Stand

General Custer is surrounded by Indians and he's the only cowboy left.

He finds an old lamp in front of him and rubs it. Out pops a genie. The genie grants Custer one wish, with a catch. He says, "Whatever you wish for, each Indian will get two of the same thing."

Custer ponders a while and thinks:"If I get a bow and arrow they get two. If I get a rifle they get two!" He then rubs the bottle again and out pops the genie. "Well," the genie asks "have you made up your mind?"

What did Custer ask for to help him get away?

Memory : Vitamin B

B vitamins are not naturally produced by the body and must be obtained from external sources in order to remain healthy. B vitamins include B12, B6, Thiamine, Roboflavin, Niacin, folic acid and others. These vitamins can be found in supplements as well a variety of foods such as fruits, vegetables, fish and eggs. Poor diet, drinking and smoking can contribute to deficiencies in these vitamins.

Studies show that a deficiency in B vitamins can cause greater age-related memory decline, as well as an increased risk factor for developing dementia later in life. Low levels of folic acid, may also contribute to depression. Vitamin B is also important for the breakdown of homocysteine.

Creativity : Brainstorm Rule: Defer Judgment

Deferring Judgment is a vital rule to adhere to when conducting a Brainstorm. To defer judgment, don't stop to evaluate any ideas during the brainstorm and never ever say that an idea is stupid or won't work. This rule will keep the momentum going and keep the group coming up with new ideas. Nothing kills the energy in a brainstorm faster than criticism. Not to mention that the person who offered the idea will feel embarrassed and will be less likely to continue contributing. There will be plenty of time after the brainstorm to go through all the ideas and weed out the gems.

Shooting down other people's ideas is just a cheap way to demonstrate your own superiority. In reality, it shows your inflexibility and will make people not want you to participate in their future brainstorms.

Vocabulary : Word of the Day : Euphemism

eu-phe-mism

noun :: The substitution of an agreeable or inoffensive expression for one that may offend or suggest something unpleasant.

"'Kicked the Bucket' is a euphemism for saying that someone died."
