Let’s see, already had a plank that could be a lid for the desk project.
And I still had some lumber left over. Not the prettiest stuff, though
The smaller plank looked about the same. Smaller one was just enough to make one side piece
with a sloped edge, and a flat area on one end. Used this as a pattern for the other side piece
There was a few items there that i had to work around. There was a crack running the length of the board, and a bid, old knot
Hand saw took care of that knot area, then a re-posisition in the vise for the other “problem area”
Note the lay out line? A couple whacks with a mallet ( couldn’t find a big hammer) and
“Waste” is gone. Trimmed the rest with a saw and other tools
Until the blank looked like this. Then a mallet & chisel to rough it down
Planes? Yep, used a couple, mainly a Cambered Jack plane
That could take down the roughest of the rough sawn areas. Once it was done, then a smooth plane finish things up
I also used that miter box to trim the parts down a bit. As for the “waste” that was broken off?
Laid out a straight line, in oder to make the “front” piece of the desk.
Chisel & mallet to knock off the worst of the edge, then the plane smoothed it down to the line
As for the face of the board
It had a bit of dry rot showing, until the Jack plane arrived on the scene.
Ok, now there are three more pieces to the desk’s puzzle
Still have a few more to make. Then maybe think about joining all these into one item? Might have the spend a little change on a few hinges. Until next time….
