Africa is estimated to have 69% of people with HIV!

Africa is estimated to have 69% of people with HIV!

The immune system is one of the body’s most intelligent designs. By distinguishing between our healthy tissue and infections that aim to attack us, the immune system protects us from diseases and viruses.

So anything that weakens our immune system is a huge, fundamental threat to our health. That is what HIV does. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) makes it harder for the immune system to fight infection and disease and the final stage of HIV is AIDS, which is when the body can no longer combat life-threatening infections.

Despite making up only 14.5% of the World’s population, Africa is believed to contain 69% of all people with HIV.

If people around the World are really concerned about this issue, they should start supporting Africa with educational and prevention programs of this particular disease.

The color orange was named after the fruit and not the other way around!

The color orange was named after the fruit and not the other way around!

Pretty shocking isn’t it?

The color orange was named after the fruit, not the other way around. Before then, the English speaking world referred to the orange color as geoluhread, which literally translates to “yellow-red”.

The word orange itself was introduced to English through the Spanish word “naranja”, which came from the Sanskrit word nāraṅga, which literally means “orange tree”.

The English dropped the leading “n” and eventually we got the word “orange”.

In the early 16th century, the word orange gradually started being used to not only refer to the fruit, but also what we now know of as the color orange.

As an extra fact, Christopher Columbus brought the first orange seeds to the New World on his second voyage in 1493.

Nicolas Cage turned down the role of Neo in The Matrix!

Nicolas Cage turned down the role of Neo in The Matrix!

Over the past decade, Nicolas Cage has become one of the easiest actors in Hollywood to make fun of. It's a combination of the hair, the transforming face and the awful movies.

That makes it easy to forget that Cage was once one of the game's most sought after actors. So sought after, in fact, that the 47-year-old actor has had to turn down his fair share of roles.

After being offered the role of Aragorn in Lord of the Rings, he was offered to play Neo in “The Matrix” but he decided to turn down that part because the movie was being shot in Australia and he also didn’t feel mature enough as an actor.

Make sure you check the link on the source to see other movie roles that he has turned down!

Natalie Portman thinks that the lesbian scene in Black Swan was key to the film’s success!

Natalie Portman thinks that the lesbian scene in Black Swan was key to the film’s success!

When Black Swan was first at movie theaters, no man wanted to go see it, until they knew there was a lesbian scene that involved Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis!

The pre-hyped lesbian sex scene in Black Swan got men and women to the theaters. The film grossed $1,394,265 in it's first week, and that was in a limited release at only 17 theaters.

Natalie Portman in an interview for Black Swan said ‘How do you get guys to a ballet movie? How do you get girls to a thriller?’ And the answer is a lesbian scene. Everyone wants to see that.”

So in fact she might be right! There is a reason why this movie won an Academy Award!

The reason soap operas look so different is because they’re shot at twice the framerate than most movies and TV shows!

The reason soap operas look so different is because they’re shot at twice the framerate than most movies and TV shows!

Ever noticed how soap operas look a little gauzy? A little off-pace compared to other television shows?

I always figured this was due to the way they lit the sets. Maybe they used an effect to make everyone's skin look better. The dimmer the lighting, the better to hide secrets. However, this is not case.

Soap operas do of course look different than other TV shows. There is even a name for this: The "Soap Opera Effect" or SOE.

Essentially, they are smoothing motion so there isn't any motion blur when you watch it on your TV. They look this way because they are shot at 30 or 60 framers per second.

Regular movies and television shows are usually shot at 24 frames per second. Hence, soap operas have a weirdly unsettling motion smoothing effect.

When LCD screens first became popular, some of these televisions had SOE capability because LCD screens struggled with motion blur.

Domain names were free until 1995!

Trying to find a domain name for your future web page? It must be a catchy and yet perfect name! Especially since you’ll be paying for it.

Sadly, we are not in 1995 anymore, the days when domain names were free!

Prices of Domain Names went through a lot of ups and downs since the very beginning, Domain names started as a free asset in 1985.

In the year 1995 when Network Solutions was granted the authority to start charging for domain names, They kept the price at 100 USD for 2 years, which dropped to 70 USD in the year 1997.

In 1998, Domain name prices came down after the formation of ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers).

When a financial crisis hit, people in Dubai just abandoned their luxury sports cars in the airport as they fled!

If you have a luxury automobile - a Ferrari, say, or a Porsche - you likely take good care of it. Or rap about it. Either way, you probably don't abandon it in a parking lot.

Not so of people in Dubai. The city is known for extravagant wealth, but even it, is not immune to financial crisis.

When the city hit hard times, so did some of it's wealthier residents. Burdened with inescapable debt, these citizens would simply park their luxury cars at the airport, and flee.

The cars would remain in the parking lot, gathering dust. I hope they found a good home for them.

There’s a plant that can kill you if you touch it!

There’s a plant that can kill you if you touch it!

Dendrocnide moroides, also known as the stinging bush, gympie stinger, mulberry-leaved stinger, gympi gympi, stinger or moonlighter, is a large shrub native to rainforest areas in northeastern Australia, the Moluccas and Indonesia.

It is best known for stinging hairs which cover the whole plant and deliver a potent neurotoxin when touched. It is the most virulent of the Australian species of stinging trees.

The sting causes an extremely painful stinging sensation which can last for days or even months, and the injured area becomes covered with small, red spots joining together to form a red, swollen mass. The sting is known to be potent enough to kill humans, and it can also kill dogs and horses.

Salmon Sushi is NOT originally Japanese!

Salmon Sushi is NOT originally Japanese!

When we hear the word “sushi” we immediately related to Japan as pretty much their most famous food. Just like “taco” for Mexican food or “chop suey” for Chinese food. Sadly, we’ve all been living a lie!

In the 1970s, Japan did not import a single piece of fish and it did not use salmon for sushi. That all started to change in the 1980s after a Norwegian seafood delegation visited the Asian country and Project Japan was formed. Today, Norwegian salmon is the sushi fish of choice among young Japanese.

The project ended up in having a profound effect on the culinary habits of Japanese who were unaccustomed to eating salmon raw. The preferred fish for sushi and sashimi were tuna and sea bream.
