A tribe in India holds a festival that lets young people choose their own partner instead of an arranged marriage!

In India, the norm for many regions is arranged marriage. Parents decide who their children will marry based on many different factors - love not usually being one of them. However, the Bhil tribe in India leaves room for romance.

The Bhils are one of the oldest tribes in the country and reside in central India. Each spring, they hold the bhagoria melas.

These "festivals of elopement" take place in Jhabua and start during Holi, the Hindu festival of colors. Single men and women looking for spouses come from all around to attend the festivals.

The women dress up in colorful skirts, blouses and scarves while the men wear turbans. They woo one another until they find a mate.

Once they've found someone they think they can spend the rest of their life with, they dance and sing and ride the festival's merry-go-rounds.

Memory : Neurons

The brain is made up of billions of nerve cells, called neurons. There are over 100 million neurons per square inch of your brain! Neurons communicate to nearby neighbors via electrical and chemical signals sent between axons and dendrites.

An axon is a long slender projection from a neuron which transmits signals away from the cell and towards other nearby neurons. Bundles of axons make up nerves and are the primary way that signals are transmitted throughout the body. The axons in your spinal cord can be as long as 3 feet.

A dendrite is a projection from a neuron that receives signals from the axons of its neighbors. A neuron will have a large number of dendrites but only one axon.

The interface between a dendrite and an axon is called a synapse. The signal is transmitted along the axon as an electrical impulse. Once it reaches the synapse, the release of chemical neurotransmitters transmits the signal to the dendrites of other neurons. Each neuron will be have between 1,000 and 10,000 synapses.

Think Stonehenge is ancient? Most of it was restored in the 20th century!

Think Stonehenge is ancient? Most of it was restored in the 20th century!

Stone Henge is one of the great mysteries of history. Located in the British countryside, the giant stones make visitors wonder just why they are there and who arranged them just so? Well it turns out that who arranged them just so was English Heritage about 50 years ago.

Between 1901 and 1964, almost all the stones were restored in a series of makeovers. Pictures show workers moving stones around with heavy machinery.

Considering the monument's value is greatly linked to it's ancient layout, you can see why this could be a problem. And why it was kept out of the guidebooks. Until recently, this restoration was essentially glossed over.

However, the brochures and guidebooks are being rewritten to include the "forgotten years" of the restoration. To be fair, workers didn't completely make up the layout, but they did move the stones to reflect where they thought they were supposed to be. Not quite historically accurate.

A bunch of unknown graves were discovered in 1990 that were the result of a vampire scare 100 years earlier!

In 1990, some children playing in the town of Griswold, Connecticut accidentally unearthed a grave site. Local authorities worried that the grave was the work of serial killer Michael Ross.

However, once the bones were studied, they were found to be over 100 years old. Archaeologists could have dismissed the site as an old family grave - like many unmarked graves across New England - but for one unique attribute.

One of the bodies, that of a young man, had been tampered with. His bones were rearranged and broken so they no longer resembled a human skeleton. And this rearrangement had been performed nearly 5 years after the man died. Why?

The town was suffering from a vampire panic. During the late 1800s, a disease known as consumption was ravaging New England towns.

The disease, which had no cure, would slowly kill people. The symptoms included weight loss, and a hacking, bloody cough. It appeared as if the victim's life (and blood) was draining out of them.

As such, townspeople started blaming vampires (often family members who had died recently) for the deaths of others. In order to stop the undead family members, they dug them up and burned their hearts.

Short Film: In A Forest

In A Forest is an animated thriller centered around the concept of a rabbit who finds himself fleeing a determined predator. Directed by Dutch filmmaker/artist Fons Schiedon and co-produced by Submarine pictures, In A Forest is a highly cinematic affair with a very strange twist lurking at the end. When it was mentioned to us that 'The behind the scenes is rather uninteresting because it's part of the film,' we were left scratching our heads till we watched it in it's entirety.

In A Forest is part of a very cool, ongoing initiative by the Dutch Film Fund, Ultrashort!, that aims to reintroduce short films back into cinemas. Over the course of 2010, In A Forest was screened in all major theaters across the Netherlands as a pre-movie to blockbuster action flick, The Last Airbender.

During the revolutionary war, the British were ambushed using the same tactic they had used against the US!

On the evening of September 20, 1777, near Paoli, Pennsylvania, General Charles Grey and nearly 5,000 British soldiers launch a surprise attack on a small regiment of Patriot troops commanded by General Anthony Wayne in what becomes known as the Paoli Massacre.

Not wanting to lose the element of surprise, Grey ordered his troops to empty their muskets and to use only bayonets or swords to attack the sleeping Americans under the cover of darkness. Nearly 200 Americans were killed or wounded.

Less than two years later, the American general who was ambushed used the same tactic on the British, killing 94 and capturing nearly 500.

At least someone learnt from history and was able to use it in his favor!
