Creativity : Reading While Dreaming

daily brain teaser

One technique for becoming lucid in a dream is to try to read something. For some reason, words are very impermanent in the dream world and often change between glances. Find some writing and read it. Then look away and read it again. If the words stay the same, then you are probably awake. If the words change, then you are certainly asleep.

To get in the habit of performing this test, you will need to do it when you are awake. This could be as simple as looking at your digital watch twice whenever you check the time. If you are dreaming, the numbers will change between glances.

Another way to do this is to take a business card and write, “Am I dreaming?” on the back. Keep this card in your pocket and take it out from time to time. Read the question and then flip the card over. Wait a second and flip it back. If the question has changed, then you are dreaming and can become lucid.

Memory : Cholesterol and Hypertension

daily brain teaser

High cholesterol and high blood pressure are conditions that most people associate with being bad for the heart, but recent research is showing that they are also bad for your head. So, there are now even more reasons to take care of your health.

People with high cholesterol levels are more likely to suffer memory problems than people who have low cholesterol. The exact reasons why this is the case is still not entirely understood. Cholesterol can be somewhat reduced through proper dieting, but people with a genetic predisposition to high levels cannot control it entirely by diet and should consult their physician for proper treatment.

Hypertension can also cause memory impairment. Scientists think that the increased blood pressure can cause damage to the tiny blood vessels that terminate in your brain. If these fragile blood vessels get damaged, the neurons that they feed will not be getting the nutrients and oxygen that they need to function at peek performance. Untreated, hypertension can eventually result in dementia, so if you have high blood pressure, make sure you do something about it.

diduknow

The phrase “to turn a blind eye” comes from British Vice Admiral Nelson, who was blind in one eye; in one battle, when he was signaled to stop attacking a fleet of Danish ships, he held up a telescope to his blind eye, saying “I really do not see the signal,” and attacked anyway.
