Want to hold your breath underwater longer? Do this.

Want to hold your breath underwater longer? Do this.

If you hyperventilate, you can hold your breath underwater longer. This is because when you hyperventilate, you are getting rid of a lot of the CO2 in your body.

CO2 buildup is one of the causes for you feeling pain when you hold your breath too long. By getting rid of it, you delay the body's need to breathe for longer.

However, this can also be dangerous. Hyperventilation reduces the level of CO2 but does not particularly increase the level of Oxygen in your bloodstream.

This means that you may run out of oxygen but because you don't have CO2, you won't feel the need to breathe and you may pass out!

There's a mystery line in Dante's Inferno and no one knows what it means.

There's a mystery line in Dante's Inferno and no one knows what it means.

Dante’s inferno is the first part of Dante Alighieri's 14th-century epic poem Divine Comedy. It is followed by Purgatorio and Paradiso.

It is anallegory telling of the journey of Dante through Hell, guided by the Roman poet Virgil.

In the poem, Hell is depicted as nine circles of suffering located within the Earth. Allegorically, the Divine Comedy represents the journey of the soul towards God, with the Inferno describing the recognition and rejection of sin.

"Raphèl maí amèche zabí almi" is a verse from Dante's Inferno. The verse is shouted out by Nimrod, one of the giants who guard the Ninth Circle of Hell.

The line, whose literal meaning is uncertain (it is usually left untranslated as well), is usually interpreted as a sign of the confusion of the languages caused by the fall of the Tower of Babel.

Reality is that no one knows what it really means and that is a mystery that still prevails now.

This is why Kangaroos could be the key to solving climate change.

This is why Kangaroos could be the key to solving climate change.

Kangaroos don't expel methane in their farts in the same way that most other animals do.

While most land animals expell methane from their bodies, Kangaroos have found a way to reuse it.

Instead of expelling the gas into the atmosphere, the body of a Kangaroo will reuse the methane and convert it into energy!

Scientists are hoping to find a way to translate this ability from kangaroos into cows. Cows are one of the biggest sources of the methane that goes in the atmosphere.

If their emissions were curbed, it would help fight against climate change! Now you know. Methane has a very distinct smell.

If you're ever in a room with a buddy and a kangaroo and someone cuts the cheese, you'll know who it was right away.

These items in Mario Galaxy and Zelda Skyward Sword have a surprising real-life counterpart!

These items in Mario Galaxy and Zelda Skyward Sword have a surprising real-life counterpart!

Some clever readers noticed that the "Gratitude Crystals" you get for completing sidequests and helping people out in the new Zelda game, "Skyward Sword" resembled "Star Bits" from Super Mario Galaxy.

In fact, the reason for this is that they're both based on a really popular kind of Japanese candy called Konpeito.

The Japanese have had Konpeito since the 16th century. The name comes from the Portuguese word for candy.

In fact, it was the Portuguese that brought this candy over to Japan where it's still made today.

Konpeito also made an appearance in Spirited Away, where the tiny soot balls that Chihiro encounters ate the candies! (Check out a pic here)

This normal-looking photo is anything but. It's part of one of the most romantic stories you'll ever read.

Alex and Donna Voutisinas thought the first time their paths had crossed was when the couple had begun working together at a hotel.

As it turns out, they had come within feet of each other at Disney World when they were just toddlers!

They came to this startling realization just days before their marriage while searching for baby pictures to be used at their reception.

While looking at a photo of Donna's family taken at the 'happiest place on Earth,' Alex saw HIS FATHER pushing a stroller in the background!

As it turns out, both the bride and groom's families had been vacationing on that same day, and they had the photographic evidence to prove it.

I guess it just goes to show that "it's a small world after all"... Most epic photobomb ever.

Giant pandas take an absurdly long time to eat. Find out how long.

Giant pandas take an absurdly long time to eat. Find out how long.

And it's usually nothing but bamboo for the whole 12 hours! Bamboo isn't very nutritious, so they have to eat a lot of it to stay alive, about 84 pounds every day.

Pandas also travel around a lot; an individual panda's home range typically spans 1.9 square miles. That's a lot of ground to cover.

If the bamboo isn't plentiful, that range can get even larger. Also, when facing bamboo shortages, pandas have been known to eat grass, fruit, insects, dead animals, and even live rodents.

Wrigley's Gum had a completely random start. It was a cheap freebie. Learn the whole story.

Wrigley's Gum had a completely random start. It was a cheap freebie. Learn the whole story.

William Wrigley Jr. Settled in Chicago in 1891. He was only 29 and wanted to build a company. His father was a scrubbing soap manufacturer.

So when he moved to Chicago, he started selling his father's soap. To incentivize people to buy his soap, he started giving out a can of baking soda along with it.

When the baking soda proved to be more popular than the soap, he decided to switch to selling baking soda full time.

History has a funny way of repeating itself. Someone suggested that Wrigley give away a couple of packs of bubble gum with each baking soda purchase.

Eventually the bubble gum became so popular, Wrigley switched to bubble gum full time.

Larger Letter Optical Illusion

You know, one of the best types of optical illusions, in my opinion, are afterimages. Basically, an afterimage optical illusion is when you stare at something for a certain period of time and it will mess with your perception or you will even continue to see the image after you have looked away. I realize that I haven’t posted an afterimage optical illusion in quite some time, so I decided to post one up for all of you to check out today. Now, this one is definitely going to mess with your mind, so I’m excited to show it off to all of you. I have dubbed this optical illusion as the larger letter optical illusion.

Larger Letter Optical Illusion

Did this optical illusion work for you? Basically, you’re supposed to stare at the + symbol in the “B” diagram for 30 seconds. After you’ve stared at the image for 30 seconds, you can switch your focus to the + symbol in the “A” diagram and the letter “A” on the left side should appear to be bigger to you than the letter “A” on the right side. In other words, it gives off the illusion that the letter has actually grown in size. If this illusion worked for you, you should leave a comment in the area below and let us know. Also, feel free to rate this illusion and let us know what you think. Lastly, if you want to impress your friends, you can share this post with them. I bet it will definitely trip them out!

Crafts: Thror’s Map Embroidery

"It’s done at last! This map took me around 55 hours over the course of 2 months, and it’s just under 14” x 11”. The pictures aren’t the best, since they were taken with my iPod and the map is resting on an uneven surface. I’ll attempt to take some better ones once it’s framed, and I’m sure the folks at Desert Bus will do a much better job of photographing it when it reaches them.

Speaking of which, I made this project for Desert Bus for Hope, which raises money for Child’s Play every November. It’s an extremely entertaining event, and has many, many awesome auctions and prizes donated by both crafters and companies. If you are a geek, I can guarantee you will find something you love there.

Anyway, that’s my spiel for today. I’m proud of this piece, I’m proud of where it’s going, and I’ll be sad to let it go. I hope you all like it!"
