Maple with curl and Curly Hickory His and Her's Bath Cabinets...

His and Her’s bath cabinets, Hers is 4 inches deep to accommodate the various hair accessories, not knocking it, have you seen my shop, and my lack of hair….and positioned closer to the outlet. His is 3 inches deep, deep enough for shaving cream, razors, and various sore muscle creams(I used to laugh at my dads collection), and is tucked away in the cover sure to no interfere when the other is being used….. carcass out of maple ply, face and door frame out of box store maple(curly maple at reg maple prices, it is there, you just have too look) and curly hickory panels from my lumber guy. Slight Early American waterbased dye treatment, two coats of min-wax golden oak, two coats of laquer to seal it, 6 coats of spray poly(equals about 3 coats by hand) and buffed with a little wax….all told both are happy, and that is the name of the game…..

Ridgid 4511 table saw arbor bearing failure

via LumberJocks.com RSS Feed - All Posts http://lumberjocks.com/topics/43164

Has anybody else with a Ridgid 4511 experienced arbor bearing failure.

My problems started about 3 weeks ago when I noticed a different noise coming from the saw. It first showed up when using a full stack of dado blades. It sounded like a rough bearing, changing frequency, and even a little chirping. The saw also seemed to have a little difficulty cutting through a 2 by. I kept my ears on it, didn’t use it a lot, but enough to finish a small project.

I took the blade off and cleaned the saw completely. Turned the saw on, without the blade, and it sounded rough, though a lot different without the blade. I called an engineer friend over to see what he thought of it. First thing we did was remove the belt and run the motor by itself. It purred like a kitten. You could tell by turning the arbor by hand that the 2 arbor bearings were a problem.

He was game to dig into it so we had the arbor carrier off in about 20 minutes and it was real clear that the bearings were bad. We popped the bearings out of the race and examined closely. They basically were running dry. It sounded like there was no lubricant in either bearing. They were bearing# 6004-z. Looking in the saw’s parts manual and at Ridgid’s site, the bearing spec is 6004-zz. A z model bearing has one metal shield, a zz bearing has two metal shields. It appears to me they put the wrong bearings in my saw.

The saw is regestered under the lifetime warranty, so I’ll call them tomorrow to see if they will mail the bearings to me. In any event the bearing is a very generic model and costs little (about $6 per). I’ll order and change out the serpentine belt at the same time.

I was just curious if anyone else had a problem with their Ridgid 4511 arbor bearings.

Ouchi Optical Illusion

via Mighty Optical Illusions http://www.moillusions.com/2012/11/ouchi-optical-illusion.html

Watch this circle jump to life as soon as you tilt your head, and move your eyes across the image. Does the circular middle section appear to separate from the rest of the figure? Does it appear to be at a different depth or even move? So what is going on around here? Well, Ouchi Illusion is not well understood. In one interpretation the vertical lines can be perceived as being on the same depth plane as the horizontal ones – a strictly two-dimensional image. Your visual sytem can interpret this image as 3D, where the vertical lines lie on a different depth plane than the horizontal ones. The circular contour therefore acts as an aperture. If the two differently orientated bars are perceived as being on different depth planes, then eye movements can cause induced motion. Thanks goes to Brian for discovering and submitting this optical illusion by prof. Akiyoshi Kitaoka.

Spider Solitaire 43 game winning streak ends.

via LumberJocks.com RSS Feed - All Posts http://lumberjocks.com/topics/43158

Another surprise this was…

I had no idea it was anywhere close to 43 straight games!

This was very unusual in that I had just gotten more cards to play…

... there was NOT a Play to be had anywhere!! Nada… End of game…

It’s rough when that happens… not ONE play available… Bummer…

Yes, I play the simple one decker…

If I could have won just FOUR more games, I would have broken my Record!!

... I don’t peak to check on the status of the winning streak…

... and I don’t count them… I’m in the dark until I’m about to lose… LOL
