?Al Gore got drunk and almost bought Twitter!

A new book reveals that Al Gore got close to buying Twitter because he got drunk with the founders.

In 2009, Al Gore got together with Twitter founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone and offered to buy Twitter from them.

They spent a night 'pouring copious amounts of wine and Patron tequila.' Sadly for him, the Twitter founders didn't bite and they're now filing an IPO that might be worth $20 billion.

Gore recently told Bloomberg that he's very bullish on Twitter because it's become a global utility and it's a great business.

Gore has been very involved in the tech world. As a senator, he was instrumental in the research that led to the Internet and has been on the board of Apple for a long time.

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" Quiz

Do you know the movie, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"?

Take the Quiz at Braingle.com

Creativity : Sleep On It

Have you ever had the problem where you have a deadline for a project and can't think of a satisfactory solution before the deadline, but then as soon as the deadline passes, a better solution springs to mind? This happens because your unconscious mind is an extremely important player when it comes to creativity. You must learn to start projects early and take breaks to give your unconscious mind time to ponder the problem. Pulling an "all-nighter" to finish up a project right before the deadline will never result in the best solution because your unconscious will never have a chance to process the problem.

It is also important to make sure that you allow your mind to relax during these breaks. If you are too stressed out, your mind will not be able to get into a state where your unconscious can freely think about the problem.

Memory : Remembering Names II

When we are introduced to someone, remembering their name is often difficult. This is because you must successfully store their name in your memory and then successfully recall it later. One previously discussed strategy for storing is to repeat their name when you are being introduced.

Studies have shown that if you are given someone's name at the beginning of a conversation, you are less likely to remember it than if you get their name after a few minutes of chatting. This is because if you already know something about the person, their name is more meaningful to you. Additionally, you have more ways to cross-reference the information in your memory. If you are the introducer, you can take advantage of this by repeating the names of the people you are introducing after they have been talking for a few minutes.

If you are trying to recall someone's name, try remembering as much information about him or her that you can. Think of their profession, where they live, where you met them, what their face looks like, etc. All of this extra information will help cue your memory.

Vocabulary : Word of the Day : Vacillate

vac-il-late

Christianity has long considered suicide and attempted suicide as a sin. Historically in Christian churches, people who attempted suicide were excommunicated.

In the late 19th century in Great Britain, an attempted suicide was considered the same as an attempted murder and could be punished by hanging!

Nowadays, neither the United States nor Europe attempted suicide to be a crime, although in the US there might be penalties associated for those who attempt it.

Ice cream soda floats were once considered a dangerous substance equal to alcohol!

Ice cream soda floats were once considered a dangerous substance equal to alcohol!

Ice cream soda (aka Coke floats) were invented by Robert McCay Green in Philadelphia, PA in 1874. The traditional story is that Green ran out of cream for the flavored sodas he was selling and used vanilla ice cream instead.

The beverage became popular very quickly. It was considered socially obligatory among teens. This popularity led to some local governments to ban it entirely or on holy days.

The reason for this was because soda was originally marketed as a miracle cure. This made people consider soda a substance that required oversight and control much like alcohol.

This belief actually led to the creation of another popular desert: The ice cream sundae. Soda fountains that couldn't sell soda on certain days created the sundae as something they could sell without soda.

The 'law of urination' says that all mammals - regardless of size - pee for 21 seconds!

The 'law of urination' says that all mammals - regardless of size - pee for 21 seconds!

Believe it or not, a group of scientists went to Zoo Atlanta to measure how fast animals peed.

They discovered that most mammals, regardless of size, pee an average of 21 seconds. This is despite a bladder-size range of 100mL to 100L.

They called this the "Law of Urination," and explain that mammals' urinary system evolved to eject fluids quickly and efficiently.

Larger animals have larger urethras, which amplifies gravitational force and flow rate. Urethras evolved as a flow-enhancing device, which enabled the urinary system to scale up without compromising function.

A 'cookie monster' once stole a gold cookie and returned it only after the owners donated cookies to a children's hospital!

The cookie monster surely stole our hearts in Sesame Street. However, he’s been known to be a cookie thief as well!

“Me want cookie! Me want to eat cookie! Om nom nom nom” describes perfectly his voracious appetite. However, the reason why he is stealing cookies in the real life has nothing to do with his voracious appetite.

A guy who called himself the “cookie monster" once stole a golden cookie and returned it after the cookie company donated cookies to a childrens hospital."

This German resident asks companies to donate their products to kids in hospitals, especially those kids going through chemotherapy with cancer.

The real cookie monster has denied any involvement!
