The guy that plays Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad was originally cast to play Michael Scott from the office!

Bob Odenkirk, best known for playing Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad, was originally cast to play Michael Scott from the Office, but last minute schedule changes resulted with Steve Carell getting the role!

Steve Carell was playing another role at a different show called Come To Papa. Bob Odenkirk got the roll but after Come To Papa was quickly canceled, NBC decided to let Bob Odenkirk go and leave Steve Carell the role of Michael Scott.

It was a harsh blow for Bob Odenkirk. However, years later, he went on to become one of the stars of Breaking Bad—one of the most critically aclaimed televison shows of all time. His character Saul Goodman was so popular that he is even receiving his own spin off series in the fall: Better Call Saul!

Creativity : Mental Texture

Close your eyes and try to recreate the following textures. This exercise helps improve your ability to form concrete visualizations from memory, which is one characteristic of creative people.

1. A tennis ball

2. Sand

3. Concrete

4. Silk

How well did you do at recreating the texture? How long did it take? Rank your recreation on a scale of 1-10 for how close it was to reality. Try to do better each time you practice this exercise.

Memory : Loci System Effectiveness

The Loci Mnemonic System works very well for memorizing lists. Lists are difficult to memorize because the items usually have no relation to each other and have no context to anything else that might help you remember them. The loci system helps because it changes the task from recall to aided recall by using paired associate learning. The loci locations, which you cannot forget, act as an aid to the items that you can forget.

Another advantage of the loci system is that forgetting one item in the list does not affect your ability to recall the remaining items. This is a problem that the simpler Link system has.

If you frequently have to remember lists and you have not yet invested the time to learn the loci system, you might want to give it a try.

Vocabulary : Word of the Day : Manumit

Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr. plagiarized his doctoral dissertation!q

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an incredible person who did more to advance the human race than most of us can ever hope to do. However, evidence shows that he plagiarized his doctoral dissertation.

Martin Luther King’s alma mater, Boston University, admits that his doctoral thesis was significantly plagiarized. Despite clear findings of plagiarism, the committee did not recommend he be posthumously stripped of his title.

By the time they found this plagiarism, Martin Luther King was already dead, and the committee ruled that revoking the title would serve no purpose.

For every lion cub that lives to be one year old, its parents have mated nearly 3,000 times!

For every lion cub that lives to be one year old, its parents have mated nearly 3,000 times!

The lion, the majestic king of the jungle, one of the mightiest creatures that have ever existed.

Most lions live in prides. A pride of lions consists of related females and offspring and a small number of adult males. Females are the most precious in those groups because they are the ones responsible for the hunt.

Every now and then, intruding males will attack a pride and kill the lionesses’ cubs. After a few days, the lioness will be ready to breed new cubs with the intruding lion.

Since this happens very often, for every cub that lives to be one year old, it's parents have mated nearly 3,000 times!

Bill Nye was the technical expert on the television show BattleBots!

Most 90's kids know Cornell University Professor William Sanford Nye. But they probably know him better as "Bill Nye the Science Guy."

Wonderful were the days when a substitute wheeled a portable television in the classroom and put on an episode of "Bill Nye" for your entertainment. He was cooky and his experiments were lots of fun.

What you probably didn’t know is that this guy was the technical expert on the television show BattleBots!

BattleBots held most of it's competitions in the San Francisco area, and competitors were remote-controlled armed and armored machines, designed to fight to death in an arena combat elimination tournament.

These wasps have mind control powers! (Don't worry, it's only over spiders—not people)

These wasps have mind control powers! (Don't worry, it's only over spiders—not people)

Deep in the forests of Costa Rica you can find some pretty sinister animals. There is a even certain kind of wasp that has mind control abilites!

These wasps prey on the Costa Rican orb spider. When a wasp successfully stings a host spider, the spider is paralyzed, unable to move as the wasp lays eggs in the tip of the spider’s abdomen.

After the spider regains its ability to move and goes back to it's ordinary life, the wasp’s growing larvae cling to the spider’s belly and feed on it's juices through a number of small punctures.

The larva then force the spider into weaving the foundations of a cocoon. While scientists are aware of the mechanism of infection, they don't yet understand how the mind control works. The zombified spider is then the larva's first feast.

'Happy Birthday' was the first song to ever be played on another planet, but it's not the happiest story—think Wall-E.

NASA sent the first man to the moon, has sent numerous rovers to Mars, and now, they have broken history once more by being apart of the first time a song from Earth has been 'played' on another planet.

In August 2013, the Mars Rover Curiosity had been on the red planet for one year, taking over 70,000 photos and studying samples of the soil. On it's birthday, NASA had programmed the lonely little drone to vibrate at different frequencies so it sounded like the robot was singing Happy Birthday to itself—208 million miles away from home.

If you click the source to this article, you can find the video and listen to the sounds that the Mars Rover made to celebrate it's incredibly lonely birthday. Be warned, it's incredibly sad to imagine a sad little robot singing to itself.

At least in Canada, tap water is better for you (and the environment) than bottled water!

At least in Canada, tap water is better for you (and the environment) than bottled water!

Contrary to popular belief, drinking tap water isn't actually that bad for you. Well, at least it isn't in Canada. It's actually healthier to drink tap water in Canada than it is to drink bottled water! Here's why.

First, tap water is actually fresher than bottled water because it only stays in the supply system for up to 3 days. Bottled water sits in the bottle for weeks, sometimes months.

Second, bottled water is regulated under the Food and Drugs Act. This sounds all fine and dandy, until you realize that bottled water doesn't have to meet all of the criteria established in the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality. Tap water, however, does.

If those two reasons don't convince you that it's better to drink tap water—perhaps this will persuade you. Every year, more than 50 million bottles end up in landfill sites in the United States alone. Why? Because people aren't recycling them, even though they are recyclable. Furthermore, according to the UN, some companies in poor countries are using forced labour to meet their quotas, and harvesting those poorer countries' precious groundwater supplies.
