Vocabulary : Word of the Day : Puerile

pu-er-ile

adjective :: Boyish; childish; trifling; silly; immature.

"Professor Porter deigned to make no response to this puerile inquiry." --Burroughs, Edgar Rice

Stress : Anxiety

Many people use the words 'anxiety' and 'stress' interchangeably, and although they are related, they do not mean the same thing. Anxiety is a feeling of fear or apprehension about future uncertainties, which may contain unknown dangers. Anxiety can cause sweating, heart palpitations, nausea, chest pain, shortness of breath or trembling.

Stress is a larger term that includes anxiety as well as feelings of frustration, anger or nervousness. Stress and anxiety are highly personal things. What makes one person feel stressed or anxious may not make someone else feel the same way.

Anxiety disorders are strong cases that have a serious negative impact on a person's life. Some common anxiety disorders are phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and social anxiety disorder. For many of these conditions there are drugs or treatments that are effective.

Memory : Smarter Children's Brains Develop Later

After analyzing brain scans of hundreds of children over almost two decades, researchers have found that the brains of smarter children develop later in life than the brains of children with average intelligence.

In all children, the Cerebral Cortex grows thicker to a certain point and then thins out during the next few years. In children with average intelligence this thinning out starts at around age 7. In children with above average intelligence, the thinning out doesn't start until as late as age 13.

It is still unclear what factors, besides genes, may contribute to this difference, but environmental factors have not been ruled out.

Who is at the door ringing the bell while I am working

Have you ever heard the doorbell ring late at night, or during the day, stopped what you were doing to walk to the door to be confronted by a nosy neighbor, salesperson, or general pest? With today’s technology for less than $100 you can get a camera and a cheap T.V. and then see who is at the door. But why stop at just ignoring this invasion of your time. For those pesky phone calls we had answering machines that you could have any message you wanted on them. People that knew you laughed and left a message, some never listened but you could avoid those you did not want to answer. Then came along caller I.D. furthering this trend to ignore these pests.

Well why not an automated doorbell answering device. You hear the bell, check the camera, see it is an unwanted visitor and decide which message to send them via a speaker at the door. For myself I have a neighbor that comes at all hours of the night to ask for a smoke. Wanting to really get the shock and awe thing going to get the message across why not have some flashing lights, (green and yellow) a cheap alarm siren with a mechanical ROBOCOP like voice giving this message, “Warning visitor not recognized, turn around, put your head between your legs and kiss your &^# goodbye!” * Then a countdown tone beeping, for say ten seconds, with the lights going nuts and siren wailing and such. I called the Police and checked they do not consider my warning a threat, but did enjoy a good laugh. Also you cannot use red and blue lights but any other colors are acceptable.

Okay let the games begin.

Party piece!!

Party piece!!

Hey guys…

Well this is what you get someone gives you tickets to football games and the playoffs. Used Jatoba and Hard Maple. It is a combo cutting board and serving dish on steroids. The knife holder is cool and just slides right in as a lever. The pegs holding in the cutting board are done with a pocket hole jig so there is a slight up angle preventing separation. The tray is raised with 4 dowels done with a pocket hole jig. Jatoba is beautiful wood to work with. Chips and salsa anyone.
