A bull known as Starbuck has fathered more than 200,000 cows!

If you want your cattle herd to be as productive as possible, you need good bull semen. For a long, long time, that bull was one known as Starbuck.

Sales of his semen amounted for an astonishing $25 million over his lifetime. This represented about 685,000 doses sold in 45 countries. It was used to father more than 200,000 daughters.

For 1991 to 1998, his sons or grandsons always toped the LPI list, which is a formula used to determine the quality of cattle.

Today's Daily Trivia Quiz (Nov 04, 2013)

Cartoon and Animated Characters IV

How well do you know your cartoon and animated characters from TV shows and movies? I'll give you a description. See if you can match it up with the correct name. For those characters who may not be well known, I have also included what cartoon, show, or movie they are from. Good luck and have fun!

Creativity : Notebook

Get a good notebook and start writing down all of your ideas. A written record serves two purposes. It guarantees that the idea cannot be lost, and it gives you a way to come up with new ideas via the technique of elaborating on old ideas.

Any interesting idea that you have or you hear about should be recorded in your notebook. If you can, try to organize your notes by topic. You could use notecards and file them in appropriate categories. You could use your PDA or computer to keep notes, or you could designate different notebooks or different sections for different topics. If the idea comes from a source, indicate the source in your notes so you can go back and get more information if necessary.

Don't worry about wasting paper or writing too much down. Your notebooks will be a great resource to go back to when you need some interesting ideas for a current project. Thomas Edison had over 3,000 notebooks documenting his career, so you better get started!

Memory : Modal Model

Before you can permanently remember something, it must pass from your short-term memory into your long-term memory. The storage for these two types of memory is generally believed to be separated in the brain. This model of the brain is called the "Modal Model." Evidence in support of this model includes some conditions, such as amnesia, that affect short-term and long-term memory differently.

Vocabulary : Word of the Day : Homiletics

hom-i-le-tics

noun :: The art of preaching.

"The minister was very skilled in homiletics."

Harriet Tubman used opium to get kids through the Underground Railroad!

Harriet Tubman used opium to get kids through the Underground Railroad!

In times of slavery in the US, there was a network of friendly people and places that slaves used to migrate from the South to the North. That network was known as the Underground Railroad.

One of the most famous people to be a ‘conductor’ of the railroad was Harriet Tubman. The woman made 19 journeys and freed more than 300 slaves.

She was so wanted that there was a reward for about $1 million in today’s dollars. Why was she so successful? She had some very good techniques.

For example, she threatened to shoot people who changed their minds and wanted to go back. She knew that if they went back that would risk her entire network.

One of the most interesting, and perhaps controversial things she did is she drugged small kids. Recognizing that they might slow down the group or give them away by crying at the wrong moment, she always carried an offshoot of opium to make them sleep.

An app in Iceland can detect whether or not you are dating your relative!

An app in Iceland can detect whether or not you are dating your relative!

Living in Iceland can be difficult. Not only is the small island completely isolated from the rest of the world - most people that live there are in some way, related.

The founders of Iceland were a 'small' group of Vikings, thus the people that currently live on the island are all descendants of that group.

As a result, accidentally dating someone who is a distant cousin of yours is a legitimate problem in Iceland! The Islendiga-App — "App of Icelanders" is a solution to the constant problem of running into people that you are related to.

By simply touching phones, the app detects whether or not you too close to each other on a family tree! The app connects the users to an online genetic database!

The people of Iceland have a fascination with genealogy, and have numerous resources to access records of someone's ancestors! The Vikings were proud people, and kept detailed records about who was in their lineage! Their family records are impeccable!

Frank Hayes is the first, and only jockey to win a race after he died!

Frank Hayes is the first, and only jockey to win a race after he died!

On June 4, 1923, Frank Hayes suffered a fatal heart attack in the middle of a steeplechase at Belmont Park, New York. By profession, Frank Hayes was a horse trainer and not a jockey, so he had never actually won a horse race before.

While riding the determined horse, Sweet Kiss, Frank Hayes passed away just before crossing the finish line of the race. This means that the only professional race he won happened after he was dead, and he is the only person to finish and win a race after dying!

The heart attack is thought to be a result of severe training to lose weight so he would meet the race regulations. Another contributing factor is that Hayes was a little bit too excited to be riding the winning horse. 'Sweet Kiss' soon had his name changed to 'Sweet Kiss of Death' until the end of his days.

A man murdered a co-worker over an 18-year-old he met online. He later found out it was actually a middle aged woman!

Online lovers beware, your virtual partner may not be who they say they are. 46 year old Thomas Montgomery found this out the hard way after falling deeply in love with an '18 year old' in a chat room.

Thomas Montgomery told his online lover that he too, was 18 years old and the pair engaged in a sexually charged relationship.

This relationship didn't last very long after Montgomery's secret soon leaked. His daughter was using his computer when his chatroom lover 'Jessi' messaged him. His daughter showed the message to her mother, Montgomery's wife.

Thomas was devastated when he found out his real life wife interacted with his virtual world girlfriend. Jessi dumped Thomas, and began a relationship with Thomas' co-worker.

Not soon after, Thomas' co-worker was murdered by an angry, jealous, Thomas Montgomery. When police arrived at the household of 'Jessi' they found a woman named Mary Shieler.

Mary had a daughter named Jessi, and was using her pictures to trick men on the internet into thinking she was their daughter!

A black police officer faced charges for not investigating racial taunts against himself.

A black police officer faced charges for not investigating racial taunts against himself.

Const. Dameian Muirhead, 33, is charged with three counts of misconduct after ignoring racial comments directed at him. One of these comments included "I would love to see that guy hanging from a tree.”

After being called to a farm party, Constable Muirhead and a few other officers went to the site of the party. One of the partygoers filed a complaint saying that he [the partygoer] was being treated rudely by Muirhead. Muirhead also faces a neglect of duty charge for not responding or investigating to any racial slurs and comments made to him that night!

The partygoer who filed the complaint Rheal Duguay, 41, said that the officer was treating him unfairly. One of the instances where the officer was treating him unfairly involves an incident where Duguay's leather jacket falls to the ground and he tells officer Muirhead to "Pick up my (dirty word) jacket!” Naturally, Muirhead refused.
