Today’s Daily Brain Teaser (Aug 03, 2015)

daily brain teaser

Kennel Madness

7 dogs were boarding at the local Pet Lodge. Each dog was in a separate run, all in a single row. One of the employees left the cages unlocked and the dogs have all gotten out of their runs. She needs to put each of them back in the right cage, but this is all she remembers. Help her get them in the right cages, and QUICK!

Dogs: Beau, Duke, Fluffy, Lady, Princess, Rover, and Spike

1. Spike doesn’t like other dogs much, so he was on one of the ends.

2. Princess was somewhere to the left of Beau.

3. Rover was in the third run from the right.

4. The only dog between Fluffy and Lady was Princess.

5. Duke was directly to the left of Lady.

Stress : Types of Stress

daily brain teaser

There are four types of Stress that can impact our lives. Not all of them are bad. In fact, some stress is good for us. Good stress gets us out of bed in the morning and motivates us to excel.

Eustress

Eustress is a good type of stress. This is what you feel when you are watching a suspenseful movie, riding a rollercoaster or about to finish running a marathon. Eustress helps motivate us to finish projects that we are excited about and contributes positively to a creative mindset.

Distress

Distress refers to frustrations, unresolved anger, or fear. It causes anxiety and mental suffering. This is a bad stress and does a great job at blocking creativity.

Under-stress

Under-stress is the lack of any stress, and is similar to boredom and hopelessness. An unchallenging job can lead to under-stress. If people are not challenged then they are not motivated to be creative.

Over-stress

Over-stress is what you feel when you have pushed yourself too hard, are late for an important meeting, or have a big deadline that is looming. People who are in this condition do not have the time to think creatively. They are only worried about dealing with the issues immediately at hand and cannot step back to look at the big picture.

Memory : Eyewitness Memory

daily brain teaser

Eyewitnesses have notoriously bad memories. Many studies have been conducted where a group of people watch a simulated crime and are then asked to describe the details of the event. It is very rare for the criminal to be described accurately. Perhaps this is because people always have a difficult time describing a face, even if it is right in front of them. Faces do not have features that can be easily articulated with vocabulary that we posses. How would you describe your own nose to someone over the phone?

Police use artists and kits full of different face parts to help witnesses piece together a face. Even with this help, an accurate portrayal of the suspect is rarely achieved. In fact, two eyewitnesses to the same crime often produce wildly different portraits. Perhaps this is because memory can get distorted under stress, or maybe it is because when people are trying hard to remember something, they will sometimes fabricate a false memory to satisfy themselves and their questioner.

A lobster’s brain is located in its throat, its nervous system in its abdomen, its teeth in its stomach and its kidneys in its head. It also hears using its legs, tastes with its feet, and tends to favor one front limb, meaning they can be right-clawed or left-clawed.

Crazy Writer’s Cabin Optical Illusion

At the moment, I’m house hunting. And it’s driving me a little crazy! I’m sure some of you can relate to the frustration of searching for the perfect house! I’m pretty lenient on some things, but other things are non-negotiable. I don’t mind taking on a fixer-upper or a little godawful paint, for instance, but the new house must have a shed or room for a shed, among other things. You see, I’ve always really wanted a writer’s cabin! Now that I’m working at home full-time, a private space is imperative! Banging away at the keyboard while sitting on the couch or at the dining room table is fine, but it’s definitely not ideal!

While browsing around for today’s illusion, I ran across this awesome writer’s cabin illusion!

How cool would this writer’s cabin be to have?! You wouldn’t be able to tell if you were inside or outside half the time! When you focus on the artist or the roof, it looks like he’s sitting on a patio outside the cabin. Focus on the floor or the wall, and it looks like he’s sitting inside the cabin. Craziness, I tell you! The writer’s cabin itself would be enough inspiration to ward off writer’s block for a while!

I highly doubt I’m going to find a real writer’s cabin like this illusion, but it would definitely be interesting.

What did you think of this writer’s cabin illusion? If you loved it, rate it below! And, if you hated it…well, rate it below anyway. Your ratings help me figure out which types of illusions you guys want to see, and which ones I should post less of. If you liked this illusion, make sure you head over and check out these awesome illusions!
