If you’re ever selected to get a star on the walk of fame, you have to pay $30,000 to get it!

Having a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is a huge honor. Specific requirements are laid out for those actors, musicians, directors, producers and others who earn a spot on the walk.

There are over 2,500 stars embedded along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. The walk is administered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and attracts millions of visitors every year.

However, receiving a star on the famed walk isn't all, well, receiving. It turns out it actually costs you money. Or at least it costs the person or entity nominating you.

This fee was instituted in 1980 at $2,500 to fund the walk's upkeep and minimize taxpayer burden. As of 2012, this fee had reached $30,000.

Creativity : Elaboration

One way to come up with new ideas or improve upon existing ideas is to elaborate on them. In fact, some people believe that all new ideas are elaborations of existing ideas. You should always be striving to improve your ideas and solutions by adding depth or detail. You can use the following nine different principles to help in your elaborations.

Substitution

Can I put something in place of something else?

Combination

Can I combine two ideas into one?

Adapt

How could I make something similar work?

Modify or Magnify

How can I alter or expand the use of this idea?

Put to other use

What other applications is this idea useful for?

Eliminate

What parts of the idea can I get rid of?

Rearrange or Reverse

How can I rearrange the components? What are some opposite ideas?

You can remember the above nine principles by using the acronym SCAMPER.

Memory : Remembering Faces

Once you have gotten someone's name and made it meaningful, you can further improve your memory for names and faces by associating this name with the person's face.

To do this, you need to first focus on the person's face and find something distinctive about it. Maybe they have bright red hair or a big bushy mustache. Try to pick a feature that will not easily change (for example, don't pick lipstick color). Whatever it is, focusing on that distinctive feature will help imprint that person's face into your memory.

To link their name to their face, you can form a visual association with your substitute word and the distinctive feature. For example, to remember Mr. Pine, you might visualize a pine tree growing out of the bald spot on his head.

To remember a person's profession, try adding something to the association. For example, you could visualize a stethoscope around the neck of a doctor or you could visualize a dentist with huge oversized teeth.

Vocabulary : Word of the Day : Acumen

ac-u-men

noun :: Mental keenness, quickness and accuracy.

"Einstein had an unparalleled acumen."

The four ghosts in Pac-man are programmed to act differently!

We all know Pac-man, we all love it!

Nothing better to do with your spare time than feeding this little yellow friend through many different levels! However, it's enemies, the ghosts, can sometimes make your life a nightmare when you are trying to feed your little friend.

However, there is a way to plan a strategy against them. By knowing their next movement and next conduct you’d be able to know where to lead little Pac-man.

The four ghosts in Pac-man are programmed to act differently: Red chases you, pink just tries to position itself in a set way, blue tries to ambush you, orange is random.

Hopefully this will help you next time you play Pac-man!

The robot cop in Futurama is named URL!

The robot cop in Futurama is named URL!

Have you ever wondered what’s the name of the robotic cop from Futurama?

URL is a robotic peace officer for the New New York Police Department. Together with his former partner and friend Smitty, URL is often seen assaulting suspects at the slightest provocation, though for a peace officer, being out of control is part of the job.

The pair are sometimes featured on the television show "Cop Department", but they are generally camera crew free. He also was partner to Officer Fry for a short amount of time. He also has a relationship with the Police Chief.

His name is an acronym for the term Uniform Resource Locator.

His style of speech is reminiscent of those in 1970s blaxploitation films, with phrases like "aww yeah" and "all right".

Tank Tops got their name from old Tank Suits that women wore to swim!

Tank Tops got their name from old Tank Suits that women wore to swim!

Today, women mostly wear two-piece bathing suits. If you visit a beach or the local pool, you'll see any number of versions of the bikini and tankini.

Back in the 1920s though, the one piece suit was all the rage. Women's fashion back then required more coverage and bathing suits did not bare the torso but rather covered the full upper body but bared the arms.

These suits were also called "tank suits." The "tank" was the pool or body of water that the woman was swimming in. Today, we call sleeveless tops (both men's and women's) "tank tops." This comes from the sleeveless style of these one piece bathing suits.

An adult human is made up of around 7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 atoms!

An adult human is made up of around 7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 atoms!

The number of atoms in one person is almost too big to write out. But fortunately there's a shorthand system, called scientific notation that we use instead for writing really BIG or really SMALL numbers.

Since huge numbers are generally just estimates anyway, we just use the first few numbers, followed by a code that tells you how many zeros would follow if you wrote it all out.

Hydrogen, oxygen and carbon make up about 99% of the average human. The other 1%, is made up of trace elements. Then, let's assume an average adult weighs 70 kilograms.

Keep in mind that the following numbers are based on the number of atoms, not percent of body weight (by weight we are mostly oxygen). A 70 kg body would have approximately 7*1027 atoms. That is, 7 followed by 27 zeros:

7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

And yet we are just a tiny part of the entire universe.

He-Man was created because Mattel made a terrible mistake by declining Star Wars toys!

He-Man was created because Mattel made a terrible mistake by declining Star Wars toys!

He-Man is one of the most popular toy properties of the 80s. What most people don't know is that the ripped hero was only born because Mattel made the short-sighted mistake of not licensing Star Wars.

In 1976, before Star Wars was even released, George Lucas asked Mattel for $750,000 in exchange for the rights to make a Star Wars toy line. They said no. In 1977, Star Wars action figures were so popular; kids got vouchers for Christmas because they couldn't make enough.

Mattel struggled to find a boy line that would be good enough to compete against Star Wars’ popularity. When they had no options left, they decided to throw in a new cartoon along with a toy line of the same cartoon. They were able to reach over 400 million dollars, however, if they would’ve signed with star wars they would’ve been able to make much more.

The director of Ace Venture gave away his fortune because of a concussion!

Tom Shadyac is an American comedian, director, screenwriter, producer, author, and occasional film actor.

He is widely known for writing and directing the films Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Nutty Professor, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, and I Am. He is well known as being a Christian and many of his films have Christian themes.

In 2007 Shadyac suffered post-concussion syndrome after a bicycle accident in Virginia, experiencing months of acute headaches and hyper-sensitivity to light and noise.

He subsequently gave away much of his fortune, opened a homeless shelter, sold his mansion and moved into a trailer park. He shot a documentary about his epiphany titled "I Am".

Maybe he started appreciating his life a little bit more after the accident or maybe he just went crazy!
