A man was cured of his OCD by this deadliest way possible.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce uneasiness, apprehension, fear, or worry; by repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing the associated anxiety; or by a combination of such obsessions and compulsions.

Symptoms of the disorder include excessive washing or cleaning; repeated checking; extreme hoarding; preoccupation with sexual, violent or religious thoughts; relationship-related obsessions; aversion to particular numbers; and nervous rituals, such as opening and closing a door a certain number of times before entering or leaving a room.

In the 1980s a man with severe OCD shot himself in the head in an attempt to commit suicide. Instead of killing him, the bullet destroyed the part of his brain that was responsible for his OCD. He went on to become a straight-A college student five years later.

Creativity : Mental Smells III

Close your eyes and try to recreate the following smells. This exercise helps improve your ability to form concrete impressions from memory, an ability that is one characteristic of creative people.

1. Brussel sprouts

2. A banana

3. Gasoline

4. Pencil shavings

5. Stinky socks

How well did you do at recreating the smells? How long did it take for each smell? Rank your recreation on a scale of 1-10 to how close it was to a real smell. Try to continuously improve.

Memory : Taking Notes

If you aren't taking notes, then you might want to start. Note taking has been proven to be a highly effective way to learn and remember material. When you take notes, you put the information into your own words. This "translation" makes a huge difference to your brain, which can now more easily digest the material.

Additionally, when you take notes you are giving yourself a way to review the information later. It is very unlikely that you will be able to remember everything the first time you hear it. When you forget something and you don't have notes, then it's going to be difficult to relearn it.

You don't have to write down every little fact in a lecture or chapter of a book. Just write down the key facts and any information that you find unusual or interesting. Notes are not meant to replace the primary information; they are simply an aid to jog your memory.

Vocabulary : Word of the Day : Anhydrous

an-hy-drous

adj :: Free from water.

"Gasoline production must be an anhydrous process or it wont work correctly."

Facebook can be harmful to your health! This is why.

Add "Facebook depression" to potential harms linked with social media, an influential doctors' group warns, referring to a condition it says may affect troubled teens who obsess over the online site.

Researchers disagree on whether it's simply an extension of depression some kids feel in other circumstances, or a distinct condition linked with using the online site.

But there are unique aspects of Facebook that can make it a particularly tough social landscape to navigate for kids already dealing with poor self-esteem.

With in-your-face friends' tallies, status updates and photos of happy-looking people having great times, Facebook pages can make some kids feel even worse if they think they don't measure up.

A black man in Mississippi was almost lynched. The way he saved himself and what happened after is amazing.

Laurence C. Jones was the founder and long-time president of Piney Woods Country Life School in Rankin County, Mississippi.

A noted educational innovator, Jones spent his adult life supporting the educational advancement of rural African-American students in the segregated South.

In his popular book How to Stop Worrying and Start Living, author and motivator Dale Carnegie told a story of how Jones had survived a near-lynching in 1918 by demonstrating to the white mob how passionate he was about his efforts to educate African-American children.

Several accounts support Carnegie's account that after being persuaded not to lynch him, the crowd actually ended up collecting money to give to Jones to support his school.

There's only been one US president who never joined a church! Who is it?

Abraham Lincoln's religious beliefs are a matter of debate. Lincoln grew up in a highly religious family, but never joined any church.

As a young man he was a skeptic. He frequently referenced God and quoted the Bible; he attended Protestant church services with his wife and children.

After the deaths of two of his children, he became more intensely concerned with God's plan for mankind. He was private about his beliefs and respected the beliefs of others.

Lincoln never made a clear profession of standard Christian beliefs; he did believe in an all-powerful God that shaped events and, by 1865, was expressing those beliefs in major speeches.

Abraham Lincoln is the only U.S. President who never joined a church and at one time seen as atheist.

Do you like carousels? They're dying. 96% of them are gone.

Do you like carousels? They're dying. 96% of them are gone.

Carousels are some of the greatest amusement rides that have ever been created.

The "seats" are traditionally in the form of rows of wooden horses or other animals mounted on posts, many of which are moved up and down by gearwork to simulate galloping, to the accompaniment of looped circus music.

Carousels are commonly populated with horses, each horse weighing roughly 100 lbs, but may include diverse varieties of mounts, like pigs, zebras, tigers, or mythological creatures such as dragons or unicorns.

Sometimes, chairlike or benchlike seats are used as well, and occasionally mounts can be shaped like airplanes or cars.

In the early 20th century there were approximately 4.000 carousels throughout the United States. By the 21st century that number had been reduced to 150. That's about a 96% drop!

Sadly, carousels seem to have lost a lot of popularity amongst the newest generations.

A Chinese man sued his wife because she gave birth to ugly kids! Guess how much money he won?

As surrealistic as it might sound: IT IS TRUE!

A court in northern China has sided with an angry ex-husband, who sued his estranged wife for marrying him without disclosing her previous plastic surgeries.

Fuming hubby Feng Jian only found out about her wife’s scalpel-aided touch-ups after she gave birth to their baby daughter who was “ugly beyond description”.

Feng initially suspected his wife of having an affair. But after DNA tests proved he was the ugly duckling’s biological dad, she fessed up to having done $100,000 worth of cosmetic surgeries before they met.

A court ordered her to pay him $120,000 for his claims of marriage under false pretenses.

If you don't have this, you might be more a more highly evolved human!

If you don't have this, you might be more a more highly evolved human!

Many people have suffered from impacted third molars, also known as wisdom teeth.

But there are also a lucky few who are missing a wisdom tooth or two (or even all four). Why do some people have wisdom teeth, while others don't?

Some thousands of years ago, a random mutation arose which suppressed the formation of wisdom teeth, a trait that then spread and now accounts for the lack of wisdom teeth among some modern humans.

Impacted third molars (teeth that do not make it out of the gums) can become infected, leading to serious health problems. Even more commonly, however, wisdom teeth cause severe pain.

Should these people be considered more highly evolved? Maybe. There's no known evolutionary advantage NOT to have wisdom teeth.

And with modern medicine, there's little change for natural selection to weed out people with wisdom teeth because people just take them out instead of dying from complications with them.
