Memory : Electroencephalogram (EEG)

daily brain teaser

An EEG measures the electrical activity of the brain by using electrodes placed on the scalp. The brain-wave patterns that are measured can be used to help identify epilepsy, sleep disorders and other conditions. There are four major types of rhythms that can be recognized on an EEG.

Delta Waves

Delta waves indicate the slowest type of brain activity. These rhythms are seen during deep sleep.

Theta Waves

In terms of activity, Theta waves fall between Delta and Alpha. They are characteristic of someone who is drowsy or in light sleep. They can also be produced by someone who is hypnotized, day dreaming, or lucid dreaming.

Alpha Waves

These brain-waves are characteristic of normal consciousness. When you are awake, your brain is probably producing alpha waves.

Beta Waves

Beta waves are seen when a person is very active, under stress or concentrating hard on a task. They are high frequency waves and indicate that the brain is working hard.

Creativity : Guesstimate Time

daily brain teaser

As we go about our daily business, we are constantly making decisions based on guesses and estimates. This exercise will help improve your ability to make educated guesses about time.

When you are estimating each answer, try to pay attention to how you are solving the problem. Are you guessing the whole number or are you trying to calculate it based on smaller guesses? Avoid using a calculator or pen and paper until after you have made your guestimate.

1. How much time per year do you spend on the Internet?

2. How much time per month do you spend in a car?

3. How long would it take you to count to a million?

4. If you were a bird, how long would it take you to fly to the North Pole?

5. How long does it take to fill up your bathtub?

With practice, you will get better and making estimates by making quick approximations and simplification.

The Blue Pill, Red Pill Illusion

red pill blue pill

The blue pill and the red pill were first seen in the movie The Matrix, when Morpheus gives Neo a choice—take the blue pill to stay asleep in the fabricated world The Matrix created or take the red pill to wake up and learn the truth.

Even today, the red pill blue pill symbols are still widely recognized, even by people who haven’t seen the movie. A red pill blue pill decision means the people can “take the red pill” to learn the hard truth or “take the blue pill” and remain blissfully ignorant. Redpills are people who have chosen to learn the truth about something, while Bluepills are people who have chosen to remain blind to reality.

It would definitely be a difficult decision to make! If given the choice, which would you take? The pill on the left or the pill on the right?
