Memory : Sensory Deprivation

The next time you are going to perform a task such as walking the dog, doing the laundry, or cleaning the dishes, put some earplugs in and do the activity without your sense of hearing. This will force you to use your other senses to complete the task, which will cause new associations to be formed. In addition, this will give your senses of smell and touch a chance to help out. Pay attention to how much information you usually get from hearing and what parts of the task are difficult without sound.

Sorry, 23-year-olds, but this year is total shit. You’re a year or two removed from college and reaching a legal drinking age, but you’re not mature enough to have actually figured out what you want to do with your life. Drinking and partying is getting old, but you’re equally bored by staying home. Basically everything is terrible. Ask a bunch of over-30 people what the worst year of their ‘20s was and they will inevitably tell you that when they were 23, everything fell apart and they had no idea who they were anymore or WTF they were doing with themselves. Be strong, better years are coming.

Age 20

Being 20 is the purgatory of life. You are no longer a teen but no one treats you like an adult either. You can join the army, vote, date a 40-year-old (don’t), buy porn, smoke cigarettes, you probably even pay taxes — but you can’t DRINK (legally). Three-hundred sixty-five days of waiting to turn 21. Have fun with that. :(

As one of my coworkers just said, “26 is the year that you wake up and realize someday you’re going to die.” Twenty-six is a mortality year — you’re now closer to 30 than you are to 20, and it’s when you first experience genuine pressure to settle down and, like, have your shit together already. This is the year of most people’s dreaded “quarter-life crisis,” and with good reason. You’re going to die someday, and you’re one year closer to it.

Nintendo was sued by two boys who said Pokemon caused their gambling addiction!

Pokémon, one of the largest entertainment franchises in history, has routinely come under criticism for various themes that people do not agree with. Some are relatively sound in their allegations, others are completely ridiculous.

Some Christians have claimed Pokémon goes against the teachings of the bible by promoting the concept of “Pokémon evolution,” in which the creatures level up. While this is completely ridiculous, perhaps no allegation is more ridiculous than the claim by two boys in 1999.

Two nine-year-old boys, with their parents, sued the company because they claimed constantly searching and spending money on different Pokémon cards promotes gambling! They even said that the kids are already addicts and their lives are ruined!

The Ironman Triathlon was created to settle an argument!

The title of the most athletic person in the world is one that will probably never be given out, yet ways to settle the debate have been put forward since ancient times. Perhaps one of the most famous recent ones is the Ironman Triathlon!

Created in the late 1970’s, the original idea arose from an argument during the awards ceremony for the O’ahu Permiter Relay where many different runners and swimmers were present.

While the two groups argued over which took more athletic skill, someone reminded the group that Sports Illustrated had recently declared the Belgian Cyclist Eddy Merckx held the record for highest oxygen uptake, making him the most fit man in the world.

One thing turned in to another and eventually a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bicycle race, and a 26.2 mile marathon were the result to settle the matter!

Freeport High School has a PRETZEL for a mascot!

All high schools throughout the U.S. Have a special mascot that represents several values, depending on the school.

The city of Freeport, Illinois, holds a high school whose current mascot is somewhat unique and out of the ordinary: A pretzel. How did the Freeport High School athletic teams become known as the pretzels?

In an 1895 article, the Daily Democrat referred to Freeport as "The Pretzel City". It seems that there were many German bakeries in the city, and according to historians, the Billerbeck Bakery, established in 1881, was the greatest producer of pretzels.

Thus Freeport became known as the Pretzel City, and Freeport High's athletic teams began to be referred to as the "Pretzels".

A woman died at age 99 with 1400 direct descendants!

Rachel Krishevsky, a woman who believed children to be a tremendous joy, died at the age of 99. Her direct descendants numbered over 1,400 at the time of her death and her family says she knew them all.

Krishevsky had four daughters and seven sons with her cousin and husband Yitzhak. Her eleven children produced 150 grandchildren who in turn begot over 1,000 great-grandchildren. When she died her great-great-grandchildren numbered in the hundreds.

She is remembered as a great woman, one of her grandsons, describes Grandma a God-fearing woman, and her door was always open to the homeless and poor near the market who were looking for a place to eat.

Imagine you and someone from Thailand are chatting somewhere and sometime on the Internet. Imagine that, in the course of the conversation, you, and this may require some extra imagination say something utterly, awesomely hilarious.

Out of nowhere, you see your new friend just sent you “55555”. You ignore it, then you say something funny again and you get another “55555”.

What it’s all this about? In Thai, the number 5 is pronounced "ha" so instead of saying "hahahahaha," Thai speakers will sometimes write "55555."

In another words, you should feel happy for making your new friend giggle! If you’d like to use a new shortcut for “HA” now you know that “5” can be used for the same purpose.
