Fred's Flag Day

Fred ran a flag making business. Things were looking bleak when, out of the blue, someone called from the Paraguayan Embassy. They needed an urgent consignment of 1000 Paraguayan flags by the following week.

Fred got to work straight away. He got a picture of the current Paraguayan flag, got hold of the required cloth and he and his staff worked without stopping until the flags were dispatched. The business was saved, or so he thought.

Unfortunately, the Embassy refused to pay and returned them all. Fred has now lost his business, but why?

Creativity : Lucid Dreaming

Lucid dreaming is the state of being aware that you are dreaming. This allows you to take charge and control your dreams in productive ways. Lucid dreaming can be used as a tool for problem solving and personal growth. Lucid dreamers (sometimes called "oneironauts") regularly describe their dreams as being exciting, uplifting and highly rewarding.

Humans spend about a third of their lives asleep. Some lucid dreamers argue that sleeping through dreams is not a productive use of one's lifespan. With consistent practice, people can learn to become lucid pretty much whenever they want and recapture some of this lost time. Lucid dreaming is not easy; it requires a lot of practice and training.

Memory : Loci Waypoints

One of the big problems with the loci mnemonic system is that you cannot retrieve an item directly from the middle of the list. You usually have to start at one end of the list and work your way in. The following trick will help you quickly jump through a long list.

You are going to attach numerical waypoints to specific locations in your loci system. For example, you could associate a five-dollar bill to the fifth location and your ten toes to the tenth location. When you make your associations you will need to incorporate all three items into one visualization.

For example, if your fifth location is the bathroom sink, and the fifth errand you are trying to remember is to pick up the dry cleaning, you could picture yourself washing a five-dollar bill in the sink. Linking all three items together will allow you to jump directly to that location in your list. If you want to jump to the 12th item, simply think of the association attached to your ten toes. Then hop two locations up the chain.

John F. Kennedy's presidential portrait is different from all other presidental portraits. Ever wonder why?

John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the USA, has a unique portrait with an interesting story. The portrait was painted posthumously by Aaron Shikler in 1970.Jackie Kennedy chose Shikler as the artist, and her official White House portrait was also done by him.

Unlike all of the other presidential portraits, it portrays a likeness of Kennedy with relatively few realistic details. His eyes are also downcast—unique among presidential portraits.

The portrait was quite controversial when it was first revealed. People complained about how John F. Kennedy was painted, feeling that it wasn't a dignified enough portrait for a president.

Aaron Shikler later told the press that he did not want to paint the eyes of a dead man, which lead to the unique style of the portrait we see today.

Bald eagles are America's national symbol. They're also very good swimmers! But do you know why they have to swim?

Benjamin Frankin once suggested that America's national symbol should be the majestic... turkey. Fortunately, we chose the bald eagle instead.

Bald eagles live primarily along waterways, nesting along the seashore, lakes, rivers and ponds. Native to all of North America, all the way from Alaska to Florida, bald eagles live primarily along the northwestern coast of the USA and Canada.

What you probably didn’t know is that they are very good swimmers. Sometimes an eagle will catch a fish in its talons that is too heavy for it to carry and will have to swim to shore with it to eat it.

Jackie Chan isn't just an action star—he also does voiceover work in Chinese! You won't believe the movies he's been in

Jackie Chan grew up in Hong Kong, and is therefore fluent in most major Chinese dialects. His most famous voice over role was as "Shang" in the Mandarin and Cantonese versions of Mulan!

Not only did he do the voice work, he also did all of th songs. At the source you will find Jackie singing his heart out in the Cantonese version of "I'll Make A Man Out Of You"!

Humans are bioluminescent. So why can't we see it?

We've been aware for quite a while that many animals and plants have a natural bioluminescence. But just recently, Japanese scientists have proven that even we humans have a very faintbioluminescence as well.

As it turns out, the human body emits a very faint amount of light. So next time someone tells you that you're glowing, make sure they don't mean it literally! The quantity of light that we put out varies based on the time of day. We are dimmest in the evening andat our brightest in the afternoon.

Unfortunately, the brightness of our natural glow is about 1000 times weaker than the human eye can see. Interestingly, there is no correlation between body heat and illumination. Unlike a light bulb, the light that our cells emit is completely cold.

just the way I see things.. #7: there is a light at the end of the tunnel.. just can't help but wonder if its a train coming my way/

I have decided that it does me no good to turn myself inside out trying to figure out what nightmare they are going to lay at my feet next… I can only deal with whats in front of me..

So they take away everything I ever earned, so I lose my house… So I’m crippled for life,,, I can manage.. its the attitude that they have no responsibility for what happened that really burns my gourd.. You would think I am asking them to pay for my mistakes instead of their own.. I never asked to be crippled, never asked to have my foot mutilated..Now when I ask them to compensate me for my loss, they act like I’m off my rails or something.. can you believe that they are using the things I write here to prove that I’m not disabled.. I have five doctors saying that I am… been on Morphine everyday for over ten years because of it.. but I must be faking.. because I can build something in a month that should only take three or four days… I can only work for an hour or so on a good day, then I have to sit.. take a bunch of pain meds and sit… then maybe a few hours later I can go back to the shop and do another hour.. that’s a good day…

Just totally fed up with all the red tape and bull sh… that goes with this..its no wonder people go off and start shooting folks.. I am not asking for baseball player money or nothing, just give me back what I’ve lost and I will be fine.. nothing more nothing less… that’s all I want.. But I guess that to much to ask.. why should I have a house… or a nice truck… or anything… who am I to expect these things.. somebody that worked and earned them on his own until they were taken away.. that’s who..I am not bitter, I am pissed off… that not right.. I am PISSED OFF>>

that’s better.. So I guess even though I see a light at the end of the tunnel, still not convinced its not them, headed full blast in my direction with a steam engine full of crap for me to deal with.. getting to the point I would just like to go away and leave it all behind… money or no money.. lost everything anyway… son of a …........................... here I go getting all wound up again.. Sorry I have to vent somewhere.. and I know they like to read what I put up here.. so read this and realize that your dealing with someones life… its not about the numbers to me.. its about not being able to have another pain free day for the rest of my life.. its about all the things I’ve lost with my grandkids because of it.. its all the things I had accomplished in my life that you stole from me.. that is what this is about.. So just play your games with someone else, I am taking my ball and going home..

Breyers Ice Cream is not legally considered Ice cream! How can that be possible?

Breyers Ice Cream is not legally considered Ice cream! How can that be possible?

How it is possible that one of the most popular ice cream brands in the US is not considered real ice cream?

If you pay close attention to their label, it says “frozen dairy dessert". Breyer’s Ice Cream, the company that used to pride itself on using only a few all natural ingredients, had to change their labels. Based on the ingredients they use, they now legally can't sell their product as ice cream.

In 2006, they stopped using all-natural ingredients and started using food additives like Tara gum, maltodextrin, and propylene glycol. Their products don’t have enough milk and cream to actually be consider an ice cream anymore!

Powerful Black Hole Beast Blasts Galaxy-Sized Gaps in Space

You don't need ballistics tests for this crime scene; only the incredibly powerful jets from a supermassive black hole would have the force and energy to blast holes like this in a cosmic gas cloud.

The French named one of their aircraft carriers after a man who thought airplanes had no military value. His life story is amazing!

Ferdinand Foch was a French military theorist and veteran of the First World War. As part of the Allied forces, he was part of the incredibly brief invasion of Germany, before winning a decisive victory at the Marne.

He rose quickly thought the ranks and was eventually appointed Commander-In-Chief of The Allied Armies and Marshall of France. He was of such high rank that he personally accepted Germany's surrender at the end of the war.

He also predicted the outbreak of World War II. During peace negotiations, he stated that by allowing Germany to remain intact they were not negotiating for peace— they were just getting an armistice for twenty years. The Second World War started twenty years and 65 days later!

He also said that airplanes were fun toys, but they had no military value. As a joke, the French decided to name one of their aircrafts carriers after him.

A laser is being developed in Europe that will have the power to rip apart the vacuum of space! So what are they going to do with it?

Plans are currently being drawn up for the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI). The ELI's goal is to build the most powerful lasers ever to exist—over 10 times as powerful as any existing laser.

With current plans for lasers in Hungary, Romania, and the Czech Republic, the first stages of the project look to be completed in 2017. The group behind the ELI want to make these lasers available to the international scientific community to perform advanced physics experiments.

Their end goal involves developing a 200 petawatt laser that will have the power to pull apart the vacuum of space! This laser will be created by combining the beams of 10 smaller lasers—each more powerful that any currently in existence.

At energy levels as high as 200 petawatts, the usual laws of physics will start to break down, giving scientists a glimpse into the origins of our universe.
