John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the USA, has a unique portrait with an interesting story. The portrait was painted posthumously by Aaron Shikler in 1970.Jackie Kennedy chose Shikler as the artist, and her official White House portrait was also done by him.
Unlike all of the other presidential portraits, it portrays a likeness of Kennedy with relatively few realistic details. His eyes are also downcast—unique among presidential portraits.
The portrait was quite controversial when it was first revealed. People complained about how John F. Kennedy was painted, feeling that it wasn't a dignified enough portrait for a president.
Aaron Shikler later told the press that he did not want to paint the eyes of a dead man, which lead to the unique style of the portrait we see today.
