Men: you are 4 times more likely to accidentally die from this than women.

Men: you are 4 times more likely to accidentally die from this than women.

Every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger.

Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States.

The main factors that affect drowning risk are lack of swimming ability, lack of barriers to prevent unsupervised water access, lack of close supervision while swimming, location, failure to wear life jackets, alcohol use, and seizure disorders.

For some odd reason, those who are at a highest risk of drowning are men, since nearly 80 % of the people who die from drowning are male.

Best thing you can do is learn how to swim in order to prevent this kind of incidents.

A History of Holidays

From New Year's to Christmas, the world celebrates many holidays each year. How much do you know about their origins?

Creativity : Engineering Challenge : Paper Boat

Engineering challenges are fun activities that are frequently assigned to students in physics or engineering classes, but they can easily be used outside of these venues. An engineering challenge usually has a simple goal and some rules about what sorts of materials you are allowed to use. These are great ways to get people thinking creatively and to foster teamwork and competition. Try an engineering challenge at a birthday party, office outing, scout meeting, or any other gathering where you want to have fun and exercise your creativity.

In the Paper Boat challenge, participants are asked to make a boat out of paper and a small amount of tape, glue or staples. Everyone should be using the same amount of materials. Each boat will be required to hold a small cargo (marbles, pencils, or little toy figurines work nicely). The boat that remains floating the longest is the winner. A variation of this challenge is to allow teams to use as much or as little paper as they want, but have a heavier cargo (a baseball or book). The lightest boat that can float the cargo for 1 minute is the winner.

Memory : Cerebellum

The cerebellum is a small section of the brain that sits in back, next to where the spinal cord attaches to the brain. Although the cerebellum constitutes only about 10% of the brain by volume, it contains nearly 80% of the brain's neurons. This part of the brain is especially important for the integration of sensory perception and motor output. The cerebellum monitors the position of the body and communicates with the motor cortex to fine-tune the signals sent to the muscles. People who have damage to their cerebellum show problems with coordination and movement. The cerebellum is also important for the cognitive functions of attention, language, music and other sensory tasks.

Vocabulary : Word of the Day : Truculent

What stupid excuse did Woody Harrelson use to justify punching someone in the face?

Woody Harrelson is an American actor. Harrelson's breakout role came in the television sitcom Cheers as bartender Woody Boyd.

Nowadays he is also famously known for his role in the movie Zombieland.

While Woody Harrelson was at New York City's La Guardia Airport, he had an altercation with a photographer from TMZ and punched him in the face.

Harrelson defended himself stating that he'd at the time just finished filming his scenes from the horror film, that consists mainly of zombies, Zombieland, and that he was "startled" by the TMZ photographer.

His statement: "I wrapped a movie called Zombieland, in which I was constantly under assault by zombies, and then flew to New York, still very much in character ...With my daughter at the airport I was startled by a paparazzi, who I quite understandably mistook for a zombie."

Norway has the highest gas prices in the world because their government chooses to do this instead of subsidizing oil.

Norway has the highest gas prices in the world because their government chooses to do this instead of subsidizing oil.

If you're a driver in Norway, paying $10.12 for a gallon of premium gas is the normal. For the rest of the world, we look up at your countries gas prices in awe - they are literally the highest in the world.

Not only does the country have high gas prices, but they have some of the largest oil reserves of it's own.

The reason that Norway has the highest gas prices in the world, despite having their own oil, is because the government doesn't subsidize oil to the citizens. In other words, nobody gets a discount just because they live in Norway.

Instead of using government money to subsidize the oil, the government uses the extra cash to fund social programs such as free college education and healthcare! Suddenly those high gas prices don't seem so bad.

A 2-year-old survived being underwater for over an hour!

The resuscitation of a 2 1/2-year-old girl who was submerged in an icy creek for more than an hour is one of those rare cases that even the greatest scientists are unable to answer when they ask him: How?

Michelle Funk spent 66 minutes in the creek and this was reported as ''the longest documented submersion with an intact neurological outcome''.

It was also the first successful use of a heart-lung bypass machine to rewarm a child whose temperature had plunged in accidental hypothermia.

The technique, extracorporeal rewarming, involves warming the blood as it is pumped through the heart-lung machine used in open-heart surgery.

Typically, surgeons use it to restore normal body temperature after intentionally cooling patients down for operations.

In the emergency room, Dr. Bolte and technicians set up the bypass machine. When the child arrived, Dr. Bolte led a team in injecting warmed fluids into Michelle's veins and stomach. They squeezed warmed air through a tube into her lungs.

And to think that many might’ve thought that Dr. Bolte was crazy by then. He is now a true hero!

This might look like something from Jupiter but it’s actually in this famous desert.

Nature has a lot of amazing wonders that constantly offers us, sadly, we don’t appreciate them or we are either too busy building nuclear weapons instead of helping preserve those beautiful landmarks.

One of nature’s many wonders is the Sahara Eye or Ritchat Structure. The eye of the Sahara is a prominent circular feature in the World’s largest desert.

This structure is a deeply eroded, slightly elliptical, 40 km in diameter dome.

According to a few reports, the Sahara’s eye, at one point served as a geographical landmark for astronauts since this beautiful place can be seen all the way from space.

If you’d like to see more beautiful and interesting places make sure you check the source link.

Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk, is not only a great name for everything and anything, but it is a disco album released by Meco in 1977.

The album became famous after it was discovered that Side 1 of the Album featured a variety of Star Wars theme songs, except warped so that they were disco music.

The album featured a song called Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band. The song peaked on the US Pop Chart on October 1, 1977, and held it's position for two weeks!

Other songs on the album included Princess Leia's Theme, The Land of the Sand People, The Last Battle, Imperial Attack, all of which can be found on Side 1!

On side 2, titled "Other Galactic Funk", you can find the songs, Other, Galactic, and Funk.

This ancient culture had “yo momma” jokes over 3000 years ago.

A roughly translated phrase from an ancient tablet reads: “…of your mother is by the one who has intercourse with her. What/who is it?”

Excuse me? What did you just say about my momma? Researchers aren’t entirely sure either. The tablet, found in Babylonian ruins, dates back to 1500 B.C.

These tablets contain other phrases, riddles referencing sex and beer, but none of the riddles are particularly funny. Perhaps the meanings have been lost in translation.

Of two things we can be ceratin. One, humor is not a modern invention, and two, “Yo Momma” jokes are much older than, well, your momma.
