The basic building blocks of life can be found in these giant space clouds that smell like raspberry and rum!

Clouds of gas and dust in the solar system gather and grow dense, and eventually collapse in on itself to create a new star.

The formation creates heat, and ethyl alcohol, which attaches itself to specks of floating dust. As the dust is sucked into the new star, the heat turns the alcohol into a gas.

The gas gathers and creates clouds. The largest cloud, discovered in 1995, is 58 quadrillion miles away and contains enough alcohol for each person to drink 300,000 pints every day for a billion years.

These clouds contain more than just booze, though. One element, ethyl formate, smells like rum and gives raspberries their taste.

Other compounds, such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, and methanol, also exist within these clouds. These building blocks of the universe are organically created and serve to create an atmosphere where life can begin.

These dangerous elements, and the distance, make drinking at the local pub less deadly, and more timely, than waiting for this cosmic cocktail to become available on Earth.
