Creativity : Defer Judgment

Deferring judgment is an important rule for brainstorming sessions, and it’s just as important for working with your own ideas. If you judge an idea too quickly, you will reject many ideas that have real potential. Early ideas are easy to reject because they are imperfect, but they can be improved and embellished. Sometimes the best ideas come from combining parts of several imperfect ideas.

If you feel yourself jumping to judge or reject an idea (either your idea or someone else’s idea), take a moment and allow yourself to recognize that not all ideas spring forth from the mind in perfect order.

Memory : Social Interactions

As we have learned, events with emotional significance get preferential treatment by the hippocampus and are more likely to make strong memories. The most important way that emotions are created is from interactions with other people.

Modern technology is constantly reducing the social interactions that we have on a daily basis. Drive-through pickup, self-checkout lines, Internet shopping and email are examples of ways that today’s technology isolates us from face-to-face interactions with other people. Humans are social beings, and social interactions are required for good mental health. Several studies have shown that people with social lifestyles have stronger cognitive function than people who are reclusive. Social ties can also help one deal with life’s stressful events.

Try to get in touch with more people. Strike up a conversation with the person next to you on the bus, or the checkout person at the store. In addition to the mental benefit, you will be making the other person’s day a little more interesting.

Absolutely Amazing 3 Art!

Absolutely Amazing 3 Art! Today’s 3D art illusion is just absolutely amazing! No words are really even necessary to introduce this video, since it pretty much speaks for itself. Check out the video below and prepare to be amazed…

Looking at this 3D art from the sides, it looks like a few 3D pyramids sticking out of the picture frame. Start walking around the piece, though, and it transforms into what looks like hallways filled with art when you look at it straight on.

I would love to see this 3D artwork
in person, so if anyone’s headed to the Birmingham Art Gallery, pick me up on the way. I’ll pay at the pump.
