Today's Daily Brain Teaser (Sep 17, 2013)

I Show You

You see me often ladies,

For I am a part of your life.

I sometimes bother babies

But prefer to cause adults strife.

My looks are a sign of your personality.

My strength cannot measure up to yours.

With most people I am there for eternity.

Onto me, water often pours.

Many look to me with pride,

While others wish to change me.

Drifting slowly, my time I bide

Waiting for you to see

That I am just a thing you're given,

Not something very important.

For I have always been and will forever be dead.

Today's Daily Trivia Quiz (Sep 17, 2013)

More Mythological Creatures and Legendary Beasts

There are many myths and legends concerning magical, mythical, or mysterious creatures. Can you guess the creature?

Memory : Neurogenesis

Neurogenesis is the process by which new neurons are created in the brain. A common myth is that adults are losing some number of neurons every second and that there is nothing we can do about it because the brain cannot create new neurons. While it's true that most neurogenesis happens in childhood and adolescence, adults do continue to make new neurons throughout life.

Much of this adult neurogenesis occurs in the hippocampus which is the key area for learning and memory. Because of this, the hippocampus experiences very little age related shrinkage as compared to other parts of brain.

It's useful to note that stress can inhibit neurogenesis and physical exercise can improve the brain's ability to create new neurons.

Creativity : Viewpoints

Everyone has their own unique viewpoint on a problem. It is difficult to put ourselves into other people's shoes and see the problem from their perspective, but this can lead us to find better solutions to the problem.

Think of a problem that you currently have that involves at least one other person. Get out some paper and write down a description of the problem from each person's point of view. Show each description to the person it corresponds with and have them comment on your accuracy. This exercise is a good way to see a problem from different perspectives and understand where the other people are coming from.

Vocabulary : Word of the Day : Pithy

pith-y

adj :: Precise and meaningful.

"The professor's pithy remark made everyone understand."

When mom asks you say ok

When mom asks you say ok

Mom is a 4th grade teacher. The crappy mdf shelf she had to hold her students games broke completely. She said hey you build one for me. Not “can you” but ” build me one”. She’s still mom.

Anyway maple plywood, mahogany accents. I liked all of the figure on the top piece. Poly. It’s on wheels so she can push it around the classroom.

42 inches high. 30 inches wide. 10 inches deep.

Thanks a million for looking.

The swede.
