The Soviets gave a space dog’s puppy to Caroline Kennedy during the Cold War!

During the great space race between the Soviets and the United States (which the US of course won by putting the first man on the moon), the Soviets tested the safety of their ships by using man's best friends.

They would send dogs into space to make sure that it was safe for humans. They launched around 50 dogs into space.

Most of the dogs survived although some did not due to equipment failure. One dog, Strelka, spent one day in space before returning to Earth.

She went on to have six puppies. One of those puppies, Pushinka ("Fluffy") was given to John F. Kennedy's daughter, Caroline.

Pushinka then had puppies with the Kennedy's dog, Charlie. JFK called these four puppies "pupniks" after the famed Russian satellite Sputnik.

Vocabulary : Prepositions

A preposition links together an object with a phrase to act as an adjective or adverb. For example, in the sentence "She eats a jar of olives," the preposition is "of" and the object is "olives". Together they form the prepositional phrase "of olives," which acts as an adjective, modifying the noun "jar".

The prepositional phrase can also act as an adverb and modify a verb. For example, "The jar is on the table." In this case, the prepositional phrase "on the table" is modifying the verb "is".

Some of the most common prepositions include: about, above, across, after, against, along, among, around, at, before, behind, below, beneath, beside, between, beyond, but, by, despite, down, during, except, for, from, in, inside, into, like, near, of, off, on, onto, out, outside, over, past, since, through, throughout, till, to, toward, under, underneath, until, up, upon, with, within and without.

Creativity : Work Hard, Play Hard

Many famous thinkers got their bright ideas while they were relaxing and not thinking about the problem. Archimedes got his sudden flash of genius while taking a bath and Darwin figured out evolution while driving down the road. These flashes of insight happen because the unconscious mind continues to process information in the background while you are doing other things. If your subconscious figures something out, it will seem like the idea came out of nowhere.

One way to encourage this is to periodically review your notebook to remind your subconscious mind about some of your recorded ideas. Then give your conscious mind a break from concentrating on the topic and do some novel and interesting activities. When you do this, it gives your subconsciousness a chance to freely explore the idea without the constraints that you impose upon your conscious thinking.

Memory : Tip of the Tongue

Everyone has had the experience where you have something on the tip of your tongue, but you can't remember it. One way to try to recall the information is to think around it. Another way is to stop thinking about it and let your unconscious mind process it for a while. Sometimes the fact will jump into your mind the moment after you stop thinking about it. Normally, once you remember the fact, it seems obvious and you can hardly imagine why you couldn't remember it in the first place.

This proves a few facts about memory. First, it shows that memory is not all or none. In other words, sometimes you can recall a partial or incomplete memory. Second, just because the information is in your mind doesn't mean you can recall it whenever you want. Organizational problems sometimes prevent recall for information that exists.

There are many untouched plane wrecks in the UK, dating back to WWII. Removing them is forbidden!

There are many untouched plane wrecks in the UK, dating back to WWII. Removing them is forbidden!

Unlike ship wrecks, we don't often think of plane wrecks remaining around. Usually, the plan explodes and essentially destroys most of it's material.

However, this was not the case with several WWII plane crashes in the UK. Remote parts of Scotland is actually dotted with these wrecks.

These WWII planes, in varying states of destruction, are strewn across the Scottish countryside. Why haven't they been cleaned up?

Some are in very remote locations, but they are also protected under the Protection of Military Remains Act of 1986. This act forbids tampering with military wreckage.

Plus these planes could still have ammunition and human remains near them so it is a good idea to leave them alone. They stand as morbid reminders of the death and destruction of WWII.

A person is only considered electrocuted if they die as a result!

A person is only considered electrocuted if they die as a result!

While this may seem trivial to some, try and remember this next time you gather static electricity and tell an employee of Webster’s Dictionary that you are about to electrocute them. If they really knew what you were saying they would run away screaming.

The verb “to electrocute,” is actually an American invention of a word. This means it wasn’t really a word until some American guy pulled a George W. And put two words together.

Electrocute comes from the words “electricity,” and “execute.” Technically, if one is being electrocuted, they are being executed by having electricity run through their body until they are dead. So what’s the proper term?

Next time your friend says they’ll electrocute you through static electricity, you can now snidely wrinkle your nose at them and scoff at their stupidity.

What they most likely meant was “to shock.” Unless they really did mean they hoped to electrocute you. If so, we recommend finding new friendly quickly.

Exotic Pets 4 Sale

Nothing like some over the top pets to scare the shit out of people as they shop in peace. That’s exactly what I was hoping for on my trip to the store, to worry less about stepping in your pet’s crap on the floor and worry more about whether or not it’s going to attack me. Super duper!

There is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States!

There is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States!

In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States.

A couple started working for FOX for an investigation regarding bovine growth hormone, and throughout the research they found that there were many health risks related to it, and people from Florida did pretty much nothing to avoid selling products with this dangerous hormone.

FOX made them distort the story and once they denied doing it, FOX fired them, they sued the company and the court appealed in favor of FOX Company.

Apparently it's o.k for television companies to lie to it's viewers.
