There are many untouched plane wrecks in the UK, dating back to WWII. Removing them is forbidden!

There are many untouched plane wrecks in the UK, dating back to WWII. Removing them is forbidden!

Unlike ship wrecks, we don't often think of plane wrecks remaining around. Usually, the plan explodes and essentially destroys most of it's material.

However, this was not the case with several WWII plane crashes in the UK. Remote parts of Scotland is actually dotted with these wrecks.

These WWII planes, in varying states of destruction, are strewn across the Scottish countryside. Why haven't they been cleaned up?

Some are in very remote locations, but they are also protected under the Protection of Military Remains Act of 1986. This act forbids tampering with military wreckage.

Plus these planes could still have ammunition and human remains near them so it is a good idea to leave them alone. They stand as morbid reminders of the death and destruction of WWII.
