The weird Bluetooth logo is really the initials of Danish King Harold Bluetooth, the tech's namesake

Bluetooth is one of the modern age's most wonderful technologies. You might be surprised to know that it was named after a King from a very long time ago. The name comes from Ericcson's—Bluetooth's parent company—Viking heritage.

Legend says that Danish Viking Harald Blatand had a gift for bringing people together and fostering communication. He even united Norway and Denmark as a single territory.

So, since Bluetooth is intended to connect people and allow them to communicate easily, what better person to name it after then Blatand? In English, Blatand translates to "Bluetooth."

Creativity : Goal Visualization

There is a strong connection between mental pictures and emotions. If you visualize something happy, you will feel happier and if you visualize something sad, you will start to feel sad. Here is one way to take advantage of this phenomenon.

Pick a goal that you want to achieve. You may want to start with a small goal and work your way up to bigger goals as you gain practice with this technique. Let's say that your goal is to go bowling and get two strikes in a row. Close your eyes and picture yourself bowling. Try to involve all of your senses. How does the bowling alley sound? What does the ball feel like? Do you notice particular smells? Visualize yourself getting the two strikes in a row. Pay attention to your feelings and recognize how much you will enjoy achieving this goal. This visualization will help your mind prepare for achieving the goal.

Memory : Teaching Mnemonics

Most teachers do not want their students to simply memorize facts. Teachers tend to put more emphasis on advanced skills such as reasoning, problem solving and synthesis. Memorization is seen as a lesser skill, and as a result most classrooms do not teach mnemonics. What is often overlooked is that memorization is a necessary first step. If the students cannot remember the facts, there is little hope that they will be able to use them to solve problems or synthesize new ideas. With effective mnemonic instruction, students could get past the memorization step much more quickly and spend more time on advanced educational goals.

An heir to the Mongolian empire of Xiongnu murdered his father after his father tried to kill him!

Modu Chanyu was born around 235 BC as one of the heirs of the Xiongnu Empire. However, his father Touman wanted another one of his sons be the next king instead of Modu. He sent Modu away to a neighboring people in hopes that he would be killed.

Modu escaped, though, and returned home a hero. He was made the leader of 10,000 horsemen and began gathering followers. In order to test their loyalty, he ordered them to kill his favorite horse. Those who refused were executed. He then would ask them to kill his favorite wife. Again, those who refused were executed.

When he was sure of their loyalty, Modu ordered his soldiers to kill his father, the emperor. They fired a shower of arrows at him and murdered the man. With his father dead, Modu was now the emperor of the Xiongnu Empire.

Donkey Kong's original name was "Stupid Kong". His current name is due to a mistranslation!

Donkey Kong is the lead and title character of the Donkey Kong series. He is the carefree, lazy, yet trustworthy hero of Donkey Kong Island.

According to the in-game storyline, the current Donkey Kong is a decendant of the original Kong. He was named as the original Kong's successor after losing to Mario one too many times.

A lot of people wonder why he is called "Donkey Kong”, since he is a gorilla and not a donkey. Donkey Kong's name was originally "Stupid Ape" in Japanese, but the Japanese to English translator confused the words Stupid and Donkey, and did not translate the Japanese word "Kong" at all. Hence, our Stupid Ape is known as Donkey Kong here in America and other English speaking nations.

Man, I realize that Greek life can be pretty insular, but was there really no one involved who thought “this makes us look like a bunch of crazy racist idiots?”

Anyway, she seems nice.
