Harry Houdini Optical Illusion

via Mighty Optical Illusions http://www.moillusions.com/2013/01/harry-houdini-optical-illusion.html

Harry Houdini Optical Illusion An interesting illusion was composed by Tom Interval, who decided to share it with you guys. Tom runs an official blog for Houdini Museum which includes some pretty cool stuff, like this illusion for example. Inspired by our recent “Two Face Illusion“, he cut the portrait of Harry Houdini in such way that you can easily see a profile of the great illusionist if you choose so! If you click on the thumbnail on your right, and open it in full size, it becomes much easier to observe the illusion in details.

Now do this: cover half of the photo with your palm. What do you see? Depending which half your palm covered, different kind of head orientation is seen. You can easily observe it in both portrait and profile mode! How amazing was that?

Ping-pong paddle

A couple days ago I decided to see if I could craft a decent ping-pong paddle. I acquired an old, broken paddle rouse as a reference and got to work. I planed a piece of golden oak down to the thickness of the old paddle then traced an outline of the old paddle to the board. After cutting the paddle out with a bandsaw I sanded the edges down until it was a perfect shape. I then took some walnut and cut out two pieces for the handle. After gluing them on I sanded the handle down to its final shape. I recycled the pads off of the old broken paddle, as they were still in good contrition. After winning a game with the paddle I confirmed that it works. I hope to build a couple more paddles over the next few days, all with varied pads and handles.

Pine Toybox

I’ve been out of the woodworking game for a while and really missed it. Also my son needed someplace to store everything Santa brought him…
