The Club

A man wanted to get into a members only club so he hid and watched the guard at the door of the club house. The guard said a number to each member as they approached, and the member would respond with a number of their own. If the member responded with the correct number they were let in. If they responded incorrectly they were thrown out. One member came up to the door, the guard said twelve, and the member responded with six and was let in. Another member came to the door, the guard said six and the member responded with three and was let in. Believing he had heard enough, the reject went up to the guard. The guard said ten, and the reject said five, but was not let in. What should the reject have said?

Memory : Brain Deterioration

The brain does not have to deteriorate as we grow older. In fact, one recent study shows that new cell growth in the brain occurs in adults, something previously thought not to occur. This growth occurs in the hippocampus which is where memories are stored.

Another recent study shows that brain cells do not die as we age. In fact, when we are senior citizens, we will have the same number of brain cells as when we were teenagers.

Nearly 90% of people will age without any memory impairment caused by diseases or other medical conditions. The decline that most people will experience is due to a reduction in the number of dendrites in the brain, which form the connections between neurons in the brain.

Dendrites deteriorate because of disuse. The good news is that this can be avoided by staying mentally active. Solving brain teasers and playing games is one way to keep mentally fit.

Creativity : Story Building

crafty puzzles daily brain teaser

You’ll need a small group of people for this creativity exercise. Stand or sit in a circle and have someone start a story. For example: “It was a dark and stormy night…” Go around the circle with each person adding a new sentence.. Try to go around a few times before ending the story. The crazier and more creative the story, the better!

Lady Getting Squished By a Giant Foot!

Lady Getting Squished By a Giant Foot!

The week seems to be off to a lazy start, at least for me. I’m thinking a little pick me up is in order today, so I decided a fun little illusion would be perfect. And, what could be more fun than a giant foot illusion?

Lady Getting Squished By a Giant Foot!

Okay, so I’m sure there are tons of things that are more fun than a giant foot illusion, but still! It’s a giant, enormous foot! And it looks like that lady is about to get squashed and have a very bad day.

Of course, there’s no such thing as a giant foot in real life. But, there is in illusion world. This image is just a little piece of trick photography. Forced perspective to be a bit more specific. The woman is lying on the pavement in the background, and the foot is much closer to the camera in the foreground. This photo is actually a very well executed piece of forced perspective photography!

If you loved this giant foot illusion, check out this other awesome forced perspective optical illusion!
