Creativity : Lucid Dreaming

daily brain teaser

Lucid dreaming is the state of being aware that you are dreaming. This allows you to take charge and control your dreams in productive ways. Lucid dreaming can be used as a tool for problem solving and personal growth. Lucid dreamers (sometimes called “oneironauts”) regularly describe their dreams as being exciting, uplifting and highly rewarding.

Humans spend about a third of their lives asleep. Some lucid dreamers argue that sleeping through dreams is not a productive use of one’s lifespan. With consistent practice, people can learn to become lucid pretty much whenever they want and recapture some of this lost time. Lucid dreaming is not easy; it requires a lot of practice and training.

Memory : Loci Waypoints

daily brain teaser

One of the big problems with the loci mnemonic system is that you cannot retrieve an item directly from the middle of the list. You usually have to start at one end of the list and work your way in. The following trick will help you quickly jump through a long list.

You are going to attach numerical waypoints to specific locations in your loci system. For example, you could associate a five-dollar bill to the fifth location and your ten toes to the tenth location. When you make your associations you will need to incorporate all three items into one visualization.

For example, if your fifth location is the bathroom sink, and the fifth errand you are trying to remember is to pick up the dry cleaning, you could picture yourself washing a five-dollar bill in the sink. Linking all three items together will allow you to jump directly to that location in your list. If you want to jump to the 12th item, simply think of the association attached to your ten toes. Then hop two locations up the chain.

Sailors used to measure the proof of their rum by mixing it with gunpowder and igniting it. Only the rum that exploded had a good alcohol concentration.

Table Skiing Illusion

Good morning, good morning… It’s Monday and the start of a new week! For lots of people, including me, that mean back to work. Not always my idea of a good time, but those bills aren’t gonna pay themselves, eh?

It’s been pretty toasty here lately. After tons of rain and chill we’re finally getting the hot blasted summer weather that I’ve been looking forward too. Now, don’t get me wrong—I love summer, and I prefer too hot weather over too cold weather. Needless to say, I’m not a big fan of snow or winter sports!

But, I’m sure that some of you probably are. You’re those winter weirdos that get excited at the first snowflake and just can’t wait to break out the skis another year. I don’t get it, but to each his own, right?

Anyway, today’s skiing illusion is for all of you winter sport weirdos! You’d think a skiing illusion would be better to post in the winter, not in the dead of summer, but I was feeling pretty random today…

Even though I’m not a skier myself, I just love this skiing illusion! Looking at the illusion from top to bottom, it starts as a beautiful picture of the mountains with skiers. However, when your eyes reach the bottom of the picture, the snow turns into a tablecloth and the skiers are perilously close to skiing right off the edge of a table!

Clearly Photoshopped, but an awesome skiing illusion nonetheless!

Don’t forget to rate today’s skiing illusion below! You might also want to check out this ski jumper illusion!
