A German resident who goes by an alias that translates to "Cookie Monster" was on the run from authorities after he stole a 44-pound golden cookie! The cookie was on display at the Hannover headquarters of the world-famous biscuit maker Bahlsen, as it has been for the past century.
A ransom note was given to a local media outlet soon after the cookie went missing. The ransom note asked that the cookie company send milk chocolate cookies—not dark chocolate or cookies without chocolate—to the local children's hospital. If the company refused, the Cookie Monster claimed that the iconic golden cookie would "end up with Oscar the Grouch".
The company, after much debate, promised to donate 52,000 packages of biscuits to the children's hospital after the stolen cookie was returned. A few days later, the cookie was found wrapped in ribbon, hanging from a horse statue in another part of Hannover!
