In the 50's, the CIA tried to assassinate Fidel Castro by slipping an exploding cigar into his private supply!

For years, Fidel Castro, ruled over Cuba as it's infamous dictator. Rumors flew about assassination plans by the United States.

In 1967, the Saturday Evening Post reported that one such plot involved giving Castro an exploding cigar. It was a well known fact that Castro loved smoking them.

The article in the Post said that when Castro visited the United Nations in 1966, a CIA officer approached the New York City police chief with the exploding cigar plan.

It was never confirmed as truth or myth though. Some even say the plot was made up by the CIA as an intentionally "silly" decoy.
