It seems like people are living longer and longer these days. Or perhaps we're just keeping better track of them.
There are international organizations that deal in longevity research and verify claims of supercentenarians. Supercentenarians have lived at least 110 years. Talk about a long life.
In ordered to be certified, these very elderly people have to have proof (usually in the form of three documents containing a birth date) of their age.
Today, there are 68 verified supercentenarians. And there are five people who were born in the 1800s. Think of all they've witnessed over the years!
Out of these five people, three were born in the United States. One was born in Japan and one was born in Italy. The oldest is Misao Okawa at 115 years old.
