There was once a campaign to ban Minesweeper!

Minesweeper is a computer game that almost every one has played, but not many people understand.

The reason so many people have played the game is because the game comes installed on every windows computer for free. Well, 'free' if you don't count the cost of the computer. If you count the cost of the computer, you're paying a hefty price for a really basic game.

One of the reasons Minesweeper became so popular is because of how difficult the game is. It is quite the accomplishment to beat a game of Minesweeper on the highest difficulty.

However, few people are aware that in 2001, a campaign was led to have the game banned!

The International Campaign to Ban Winmine was led because certain people felt that the game was insensitive to people who were victims in mine fields, and people who actually had to clear minefields for a living.

As a result, Microsoft offered alternative versions of Minesweeper where the mines are replaced with flowers!
