Most of Mel Brooks movies in Sweden are named “Springtime for…” because The Producers was so successful!

"The Producers" was released in 1968. Considering its plot - a theatrical producer and an accountant plan to swindle investors by producing a play about Hitler that is sure to flop - it's not surprising that it received mixed reviews.

Some thought it was entirely inappropriate to treat Hitler in such a light-hearted way. However, Mel Brooks, who also directed the film, won an Academy Award for the screenplay.

In Sweden, it was a huge hit. There, it was called "Springtime for Hitler," the name of the play being produced in the film. Since it was so successful, all subsequent Mel Brooks films released in Sweden had a similar title.

For example, "Spaceballs" was "Springtime for Space." "Blazing Saddles" was "Springtime for the Sheriff." And "Young Frankenstein" was "Springtime for Frankenstein." Interesting technique.
