The Nazis passed a number of really strict animal protection laws!

The Nazi Party in Germany are known for committing some truly horrifying acts, namely carryout the extermination of Jewish people during the Holocaust.

Considering their complete disregard for humanity, you may be surprised that they were very caring toward animals.

When they came to power in January 1933, they passed a number of anti-animal cruelty laws. These laws were detailed and carried with them severe penalties for breaking them.

This same year, they passed more laws concerning the slaughter of animals, and one of their targets was kosher slaughter. No surprise there.

Adolf Hitler himself said "in the new Reich, no more animal cruelty will be allowed." More laws were passed prohibiting hunting and regulating animal transportation.

Hitler along with several Nazi officials became vegetarian - though not strictly. However, allegedly SS Officers earned their stripes by breaking the neck of a German shepherd dog in front of their officers.
