Robert De Niro is known for many famous roles. One was that of Al Capone in the 1987 film "The Untouchables."

The film was directed by Brian De Palma and also starred Sean Connery and Kevin Costner. It was a critical and box office success grossing $76 million at the box office and receiving four Academy Award nominations.

De Palma wanted De Niro for the role of Al Capone. However, he first met with actor Bob Hoskins about the role. De Niro of course ended up playing Capone, but De Palma apparently felt bad about leading Hoskins on.

He sent Hoskins a check for 20,000 pounds and a "Thank You" note. Hoskins, understandably, replied back to De Palma asking if there were any other films he didn't want him to be in.
