A 16-year-old school shooter was asked why she shot 11 people. She said "I don't like Mondays"

On January 29, 1979, Cleveland Elementary School was attacked. The perpetrator was 16-year-old Brenda Anne Spencer, an introverted girl who lived across the street from the school.

She wounded 8 children and a police officer, and killed the principal and school janitor. When asked what her motive was for her actions, she simply said "I don't like Mondays."

When police arrived on at the school, Brenda Anne Spencer had barricaded her house - the building that she was shooting at the school from. She repeatedly claimed that she was going to come out shooting, but eventually surrendered to the police.

Brenda Anne Spencer is still serving time in jail. She was tried as an adult for 2 counts of murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

The Boomtown Rats were inspired by Brenda's "I don't like Mondays" and wrote a hit song with that title. They performed it shortly after the school shooting.
