In ancient China, during the Imperial Exams people were isolated…

In ancient China, during the Imperial Exams people were isolated in small rooms for 3 days with only a jug of water, a chamber pot, and writing supplies. To prevent favoritism official typists would copy all the exams so the examiners wouldn’t recognize the handwriting of the exam takers. People would spend years preparing for those exams. Many of them spent their entire family and village fortunes preparing, and pressure to succeed was such that many who failed would go mad or kill themselves.
