Chasing points of light triggers predatory instincts in many animals. When the light disappears, the desire to hunt remains, and puts animals, namely cats, into a perpetual state of waiting.

They spend their entire lives waiting and wishing for the light to return, so this time they may be successful at catching it.

This addiction is not exclusive to the animal kingdom. Television is one example of how humans can also become addicted to watching patterns of light.
