Despite the song's incredibly popularity, neither writers of the song had attended a baseball game before they initially wrote the jingle.

The idea for the song came to Jack Norworth, as he was riding a subway train. He saw a sign that read "Baseball Today - Polo Grounds", and this is what made him start to think of the premise of the song!

The song has been recorded, talked about, and sang, countless times when it was written more than 100 years ago.

The original 1908 version of the song is so well known that the lyrics are public domain, but the rewritten 1927 lyrics are still under copyright!

It's weird to think that if Jack Norworth hadn't been sitting on that exact subway cart to see the sign advertising a baseball game, the song would have never come into existence!
