Uganda is a landlocked country in Southeast Africa. Uganda gained independence from Britain on 9 October 1962.
The period since then has been marked by intermittent conflicts, most recently a lengthy civil war against the Lord's Resistance Army, which has caused tens of thousands of casualties and displaced more than a million people.
Uganda is one of the poorest nations in the world, with 37.7% of the population living on less than $1.25 a day.
Despite making enormous progress in reducing the countrywide poverty incidence from 56% of the population in 1992 to 31% in 2005, poverty remains deep-rooted in the country's rural areas, which are home to more than 85 per cent of Ugandans.
This is one of the main reasons of why the average person from Uganda is only 15 years old. Most people don’t have the economic support they need in order to achieve more years of live.
