At one point, 90% of all LSD in the world was produced by a shockingly low number of people!

William Leonard Pickard is one of two people convicted in the largest lysergic acid diethylamide manufacturing case in history. It is not known where Pickard produced LSD for the very first time.

His first arrest for manufacturing LSD came on December 28, 1998 in Mountain View, California. The laboratory was contained inside a trailer that had been moved into a warehouse.

It contained state-of-the-art equipment. He was producing kilogram quantities of LSD and putting them onto windowpane, microdot, and blotter forms. He spent time in prison for this and became a Buddhist while inside.

From 1991 to 2000, almost all of the world’s LSD was made by him. He was the former deputy director of the L.A. Drug Policy Research Program and a former research director at UC Berkeley.

Pickard viewed acid as a religious sacrament, and offered prayers before cooking up every batch.

Since that cooking process often involved dosing himself with hundreds of hits of high-test LSD, Pickard had a definite interest in ensuring it's quality.
