Created by Vince Gilligan, the show followed the rise and fall of Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher turned meth lord. Looking back it is hard to believe that the show almost didn’t get created and that Gilligan himself admits he didn’t think it would be popular!
When Gilligan pitched Breaking Bad he said he had no knowledge of the show Weeds, which follows a single mother who begins selling weed to make ends meet.
He said they told him while he proposed the idea and the blood drained from his face. Luckily, the studios told him his show was different enough to catch on.
The craziest part? Gilligan says that had he known before going into the interview that Weeds did exist he never would have bothered!
