People in the service industry often use codes when speaking about something they don’t want the people around to know about.

These are some of those codes:


“Inspector Sands” – Used in the British subways. If you hear the loudspeaker calling for “Inspector Sands”, it means there is a fire in the control room.


“Time Check, the time is …” – Used in stores. If you hear it over the loudspeaker, it means there could be a bomb in the building.


“Paging Dr. Brown.” – Used in some hospitals. It means there is a violent patient or non-staff member in the building.


“Code Green.” – Used in Walmart. It means there is a hostage situation going on.”


“Code Ten.” – Used in some hospitals. It can mean there is a mass casualty or serious threat, or when someone is suspicious of your credit card.


“Code Delta” – Used by some ships. It means there is a biological hazard, such as an infectious disease onboard the ship.
