A pair of human feet consists of 52 bones—25% of all bones in the body!

The human skeletal system is complex—as any medical student taking an anatomy class will tell you. It consists of 206 bones (although this number goes down as you grow older since certain bones fuse together).

The feet are particularly complex. With 52 bones in two feet, they make up 25% of the bones in the human body. Amazing that we don't break more of those tiny bones more often.

These bones include the tarsal (ankle) bone, the calcaneus (heel), the metatarsal bones (5 long bones that make up the middle of the foot and lead to the toe bones) and the phalanges or toe bones.
