A Confessing Sam is a term used in criminal psychology for a person that falsely confesses that they did a particular crime that has been highly publicized.
In other words, they are a liar who just wants a little bit of love and attention. Often, Confessing Sam's will maintain the fact that they are guilty, even when police rule them out as suspects.
One of the first instances of a Confessing Sam was Robert Hubert who claimed that he started the Great Fire of London of 1666.
Hubert claimed that he tossed a fire bomb into a bakery window, which started the fire that destroyed 80 percent of the city.
However, Hubert had a crippling condition that limited his physical ability and he was unable to throw any object, big or small.
Furthermore he was a sailor and wasn't even in London until at least two days after the fire started. If that isn't enough evidence against him, the bakery he claimed to throw a fire bomb through - didn't even have windows.
Despite the blatantly obvious fact that Hubert was innocent, he was found guilty in a court of law and sentenced to death.
