Each year, since it's existence, NASA has published a list of every commercialized technology and product linked to it's research.
Here's some of the products that NASA has made possible:
- Invisible braces came as a result of research done by NASA and hit the market in 1987.
- Memory foam
- Scratch resistant lenses.
- Ear thermometers were developed to save time for nurses and were a result of NASA's technology used to measure the temperature of stars.
- Adjustable smoke detectors hit the market due to technology created by NASA.
Safety grooving was first tested by NASA in the 60s to improve safety for aircrafts taking off on wet runways. When it was realized how well they worked, engineers began applying the technique to highways, too.
The safety grooves have reduced highway accidents by 85 percent according to NASA. The safety grooves are long shallow canals dug into the concrete on roads and runways.
They divert excess water from the road and help prevent hydroplaning. They also are put before stop signs to alert people of the upcoming intersection.
